“Great Hotel, Fantastic Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2010

We stayed three nights at this hotel for the start of our honeymoon. Unknowingly until we checked out we were upgraded to a superior room and it was excellent.

The reception area makes the hotel look a higher standard than it is. The room we had was spotless and the bathroom was massive with a bath and very powerful shower.

We loved the location of the hotel. There were plenty of bars and restaurants within a 100 yards of the hotel. The area has a real buzz and there were two metro stations with in walking distance.

The hotel does not have a bar but as the manager said there is one next door.

If you are looking for a hotel as a base for sight seeing and do not mind leaving the hotel to eat and drink this hotel will be hard to beat.

Had a wonderful experience at Le Royal- starting with the check-in staff member who was sympathetic to my lack of sleep/jet lag upon arrival around 11AM. He proposed a Jr. Suite at a discount, which would be readied as quickly as possible. It was, and what a good room: marble topped sinks, spotless bathtub and shower with gleaming fixtures, large bed, desk table and a number of armchairs and chairs.
The room faced the courtyard and was quiet. Excellent buffet-style breakfast, internet terminal available- and best of all, location. The hotel is quite close to the famous Raspail/Montparnasse intersection, cafes like the Dome, Coupole and Select described by Hemingway when he lived in the city, and near the rue de la Grande Chaumiere of artistic history, Gertrude Stein's apartment, and the ever wonderful Luxembourg gardens.
One of the nicest areas in Paris, and as other reviewers have noted, very handy to metro lines 4 and 12, and 6 a bit further off.
The clientel also makes a difference. No party animals, frat trips, or school groups. A quiet, fairly well off segment of the tourist and business markets, making no waves and appreciating their surroundings.
Very clean, wonderful lounge downstairs, and literally a few feet down the blvd. Raspail, toward the blvd. Montp[arnasse, an excellent Italian restaurant as well as a more traditional cafe and another equally good small, boutique type restaurant. Memorable experiences in all three; the cafe perfect for just a hot chocolate/sandwich type meal.
The old, inexpensive hotels in this area are now almost all gone. Le Royal is a perfect replacement starting around 200 Euros per night. Well worth it!

Well-located 3* hotel close (<200m) to Vavin Metro station. We asked for a quiet room as the street is quite busy. We got what we asked for- the only downside being that the quiet rooms at the back of the hotel are smaller than those at the front. The bed was also queen (as opposed to king) sized and far too short for someone of my height (1.9m).

Other than that the place was excellent - great shower (no bath), good service, free papers (on the table outside the breakfast room) and internet. We'll definitely go back - may just ask for a larger room next time.

Situated in the Montparnasse area with all the bars and restaurants this hotel is small, clean and very quiet. The staff are friendly and helpful. Roomes are typically small as are most in Paris. Free Wifi was a welcome bonus. The breakfast was average and to be honest a little repetative and we had to ask for meats and croissants to be refilled however this was willingly and quickly done. We had a room overlooking Rue Raspail but heard little noise due to good sound insulation. Metro was just around the corner and this gave us easy access to the rest of Paris. Well recommended

I thoroughly enjoyed my 4-night stay at the Hotel Le Royal. The location was convenient to the Metro and was walking distance to cafes, shops and other sites. The staff was friendly and helpful. They took the liberty of upgrading our room was extra special. There was a misplacement of our room key and they gave me a new key, and eventually found the original. The continental breakfast was wonderful and offered quite a variety beyond what you'd find in the U.S. I loved the extra amenities such as the Nespresso coffee machine and free WiFi. The room was a good size, quiet and clean (high points!).

I travelled with my family for the first time to Paris and everything went perfect. The hotel has a great location, very close to the metro, breakfast was included in the package and really good, the room was always in order and clean, nice staff and helpful, but they need to add more computers since only 1 is not enough.

Lovely hotel with charming management - we were greeted by name when we arrived. Our children had a fantastic room at the front of the hotel overlooking the street. Our room was at the back and very quiet. The breakfast was ok and enough to keep us going through the day. The area is great - there's a fantastic bistro (Bistrot des Campagnes) just across the street and along Rue Léopold Robert, and plenty of others within easy walking distance - could have spent a month there just exploring the local eateries. Would I stay there again? Definitely!

(I was also present in the lobby when the the previous reviewer's wife was complaining about lack of wi-fi. To be honest I thought she was being unreasonable and, to my mind the management were dealing with this difficult customer with great courtesy.)
