I stayed here mostly because i love the film Amelie and wanted to stay in Montmatre, and it turned out to be a nice little find! We stayed in a double room on the top floor with an en suite, the room is small and basic with the bathroom nearly as big as the room itself but for what you're paying its pretty good. A great feature is the balcony with an amazing view of sacre coeur probably the best you could get! Only problem is how hot it gets at night, and since it was august it was already boiling outside, so we had to sleep with the balcony doors open. You might want to invest in a fan when you get there!
i thought the breakfast considering it was free was perfectly alright, would probably advise to go earlier rather than later as the eating area is small and you might end up with nowhere to sit.
All the staff here are lovely and couldn't be more helpful in my experience, there were a few problems such as the lift being INSANE and room being an oven but overall can't complain.
As for the surrounding area its mostly nice however with all touristy areas you get weirdos trying to do weird things, would avoid sacre coeur after dark as i was approached several times by creepy men, and even followed at one point. However in the day its lovely and Anvers metro station is just over the road, you go anywhere in Paris from here.
I would stay here again, was mostly young travellers like me but there are some older people too so don't be put off!

I travelled to Paris on 2011 and stayed with my family and friends for 4 nights here mainly because of the excellent location and reasonable prices. We think the rooms are small and the cleaning should be better. At breakfast we had limited choices and 1 day we had to wait for a refill but the quality was ok.

Room Tip: there are rooms with a view to Sacre Coeur but more expensives

We stayed here at the start of our inter-railing trip and we really enjoyed the area. The hostel was decent but could really use some updating! Our 4-bed dorm was very small, but it did have the convenience of having a bathroom/shower in it. The bathroom itself had paint peeling all over and the shower was a bit mouldy. The room was facing the main road and had a small balcony that was nice to sit out on during the day, but when it came to sleeping at night..forget it. It was so hot in the room that you had to have the door to the balcony open, but it was very noisy, as it appeared that no one actually sleeps in Montmarte. The breakfasts were ok, considering they were free. Delicious croissants! To comment on the area, as I have noticed people have expressed concern: we found it to be very safe, even at night. I would be cautious about the area surrounding the Sacre Coeur, but this would be obvious for any touristy areas. If you are not an idiot tourist, you will be fine. I wouldn't stay at this hostel again, but I would stay in the area again for sure!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not on the main street if you want any chance of sleeping.

We stayed in a private double room for 3 nights in June. Our first impression of the hostel was not good. The guy that checked us in was incredibly rude. He told me to fill out a questionnaire then snatched it away while I was still filling it out. Later on we paid for a hot chocolate from the hot drink machine in the common room and it spat out a cup of hot water ... so we gingerly told the guy at reception, he slammed down some coins on the counter and told us sharply "Then don't use it! There's a kitchen!". The rest of the staff we met after our first night were very friendly.
The room was really quite good for inexpensive (for Paris) accommodation. It had a television, a decent size bathroom and a balcony. Not much of a view though.
The hostel is located in a pretty ugly and filthy area but it is very close to Anvers metro station and Sacre Couer.
The breakfast was nothing to boast about. Coffee, juice and only one breadroll or croissant. The laundry facilities were inadequate. Only one washing machine and one dryer for the entire hostel. It wasn't cheap either and the dryer didn't even work very well.
We didn't feel welcome here and I don't think we'll stay here again.

A friend and I stayed here as our first stop on our inter-rail trip, the hostel itself was grand. We stayed in a 4 bed dorm, there was sufficient space and was nice and clean and breakfast was ok. We chose to stay here as it was close to the train station, this was a bad idea as the area was very dodgy, we got followed and approached by several strange men, day and night, not a nice way to start our holiday, scary to say the least.

I stayed in a 4 person ensuite room that was clean and comfortable, had a set of table and chairs in the room which made for a nice spot to organise your paperwork etc. The staff on the from desk were helpful and answered all my questions as well as booked me a shuttle to the airport. Some of the house keeping staff (female rather than the male) were quite rude and really bought down the tone.

The area around the hostel is not the best but safe enough for me to feel okay walking and by myself during the day. Would suggest staying far away from the Barbes Rouchesarts metro area, especially after dark as is not safe. Don't reccomend walking from Gare du Norde to the hostel as is suggested on their website, catch the metro or a taxi.

All in all I found the hostel quite pleasant and comfortable (shame about the location and some staff), would stay there again though.

The location was great! We stayed at the end of June and it was a very hot Summer. We had a private double room with shared bathroom. We were on the first floor facing a busy street, not Sacre Coeur as the pictures suggest. Toilet is separate, down one end of the floor and shower is over the other side and almost resembles a cupboard. Facilities were alright. The street was very noisy so we had to keep our window closed - the room became unbearably hot since it was the middle of Summer and a hot water pipe running through our room! No fan was provided in the room so we had to choose between noise from the street or a hot, stuffy room. Also, the bed was not long enough and my boyfriend and I (and I am not ridiculously tall at 170m) struggled with our feet hanging over the edge of the bed.

Kitchen facilities on site were good and we were able to save some money by cooking our own meals. Free breakfast was a nice surprise. Lots of variety and good quality.

This hostel is in a great location, close to the metro station and tourist trap restaurants.

This is a good place to stay if you aren't staying longer than a week and want an awesome slice of Paris. Not for those that stay in their room most of the day or want to come back early in the day as there is a lock out from late morning until 4pm.
