It's a pleasure to review Hotel du Levant, which I visited for the fourth time in early April. Small and stylish, the hotel ticks four boxes: location, hospitality, comfort and value-for-money.
There are three aspects to the location appeal. First, you're at the heart of the Latin Quarter, so delights such as Notre Dame Cathedral, Sainte-Chapelle, le Jardin du Luxembourg and La Sorbonne are just a few minutes' walk away. Second, the nearby metro station (Notre Dame-St Michel) provides quick transport to other locations (e.g. l'Opéra Garnier, Jardin des Plantes, and Chateau de Vincennes, to name three attractions I visited). Third, the many restaurants and bistros around the hotel provide a village atmosphere, full of joy, conviviality and laughter.
First-time visitors to Paris are likely to consider the bedrooms small, but this is characteristic of the French capital. My single-confort room in Levant was more spacious than in other Paris hotels I've used, which is not to say it was big: the luggage rack, for instance, was too short for my suitcase. (The receptionist noted my comment and thanked me for the feedback.) Also, the walls were pretty thin, but the neighboring rooms didn't create too much noise. The room was spotlessly clean, as was the entire hotel - congratulations to the house-keeping staff. Breakfast was good, though less comprehensive than in other European cities, and the breakfast room was a bit too hot.
Here are two suggestions. 1. Why not add CNN and BBC World news channels to the menu of all-French television programmes? 2. Perhaps one computer could be provided in the lounge area for guests who wish to consult the internet without the bother of packing a laptop or other device?
