A delightfull and authentic japanese restaurant. It has a pared down decor, specialities from Tokyo, plates like sushi, charcoal-grilled meats, but the strong paper are the French desserts courtesy of Pierre Herme.

Chawan Muchi a soup of excellent dashi broth and egg turned into a silky custard. House made tofu and dashi becomes a wonderful Age Dashi. And the tempura was light as a feather.
Right near the Louvre.

Kai is not what it was five years ago. I have been here twice before in the last seven years, and although there was previously a little lack of charm in the proprietor’s attitude to his guests, it has now become an almost palpable contempt and push it a little further, open hostility would be easy to imagine. The curt responses, the rushed order taking, (though not particularly busy for a Friday night), the impatient retorts to any questions you might ask, concerning the menu, the drinks, because you would not dare anything social or friendly. It’s a shame. Like most of central Paris, this small authentic feeling Japanese restaurant is grossly over priced, (think minimum two hundred Euros for a couple) but it was never overrated. Now it is, the combination of lack luster presentation, darkened décor, and unfriendly host make it the last time I will call by, because paying these prices who wants to feel unwelcome, or just tolerated?
