“Excellent Hotel”

I'd say there are only 2 downsides to this hotel. The size of the rooms and location. The size of the rooms was no problem for us but you can see them from the photos to see if they are for you. Secondly, the location was no problem at all due to the brilliant metro system in Paris where you'll be in the centre from 15 minutes of leaving your room.

The staff were very polite and helpful and the rooms were cleaned often to a very high standard. We really enjoyed our stay and would book here again if we return to Paris.

We were first placed in the only room on the first floor. I really was fine with it but it was next to reception and near a common use rest room (the doors were adjacent) and we could hear all the noise and conversation through our closed door so we requested another room and was accommodated. The rooms are nice and clean with a tub which is a rarity for Paris. The location is a short walk away from what feels like a gentrified/up and coming location part of town but there were a couple of dicey streets that you should stay away from.

If space is not your top priority when looking for a place to stay in Paris, but a convenient location, good service and a great breakfast all for a reasonable price, then I highly recommend Le Marcel. The room is tiny by normal hotel standards but it's sufficient. Decor is simple but more importantly new and clean. The bed and linen is comfy. The shower and heated water works well. What you expect in a good hotel can be found here just that it is in a smallish room.

The Metro station is just around the corner, as well as the train station, Gare de l'Est is just across the street. So getting around is really easy. If you choose to walk (or promenade as the French do) then the hotel provides a good starting point to various tourist spots in Paris, Montmarte being the nearest.

There are eateries and convenience stores along the street where Marcel though we did not dine in any of those. I highly recommend the breakfast though. It is set in a small room but cosy and homely with a good buffet selection.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. We needed help to get a local data SIM card and they volunteered to buy for us.

Don't be taken aback when you arrive as the entrance if not obvious (nondescript). There is a high chance you may miss it. The cab driver who brought us only knew the road - Rue du 8 Mai 194 (by the road is named after Victory Day in Europe - the day Nazi Germany surrendered). We had to look for the hotel along the street (it is the block directly opposite the nice looking Gare de l'Est building, 2nd building from the corner of the block, right of Grand Hotel Des Voyageurs.

Though the street which the hotel seems to be on seems busy. It is not noisy inside.

If I do return to Paris, I would consider staying in Le Marcel again.

Truly loved my stay in this hotel. Clean, quiet, and staff who obviously enjoy their jobs....I would definitely return. Boutique hotels are always my preference, where possible, because you aren't just a number, passing by....and this hotel proved my theory.

I booked this hotel since it is very close to Gare de l'East, where I'll be taking my train to Champagne. The location is uber convenient just like how other reviewers described. There were supermarkets, Quick, McD, pharmacies, cafe ad brasseries all within 3-min walk. The subway station entrance was literally 10 steps away from hotel door.

I got a room on the 6th floor facing train station but it was not noisy at all. A/C was working properly, room and bathroom very clean and wifi signals were strong. Staffs spoke very good English and were very attentive to my needs.

In terms of the surroundings....well actually it didn't feel "unsafe" near Gare de l'Est even after sundown (say 10 o'clock) but if you venture a bit toward Gare du Nord you would feel the difference.

Most likely will stay in this hotel again (in a bigger room though) when I visit Paris next time.

Quirky hotel well located across the road from Gare de L'est and very close to Metro. Not the best neighbourhood, especially at night, but hotel felt pretty secure. Rooms are not the biggest but typically Paris, small but practical but very clean Staff were very good, very helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: probably not a hotel for longer stays but we were there 2 nights and it was very good.

Travelled with my girlfriend for a 4 days long we. We found Le Marcel a nice and comfortable botique hotel. The location is quite nice and very near to the metro station (100m); on the other hand, it is probably not the safest spot in Paris (especially late night). Room was very clean, new and comfortable; bathroom was new and very clean as well. As other reviewers are pointing out, room wasn't that big but, in my opinion, it was absolutely aligned with Paris stds. Staff was very kind, friendly and helpful. Very good value for money for Paris. I would definetely suggest this nice boutique hotel.

Affirm your "Avant-gardisme" by staying at the Marcel. A typical Parisian Bourgeois-bohemian Hotel, located in a young and dynamic district of the capital. A nod to Proust's Madeleine and a haven of peace, between the Gare du Nord and the Gare de l'Est.At a first glace, a modern façade, out of sync with the rest of the neighbourhood : One only sees the hotel.
