We had the Junior Suite, which came with a seperate bedsroom and spacious sofa bed, altho small the place is very modern completed with smart steamline clean design, We dont normally like small rooms, but this one WE DO LIKE IT. It has everything u needed. Its a little gem in a busy area... This place was super for us as we had an early train to catch and the Gare de Lest station is right across the hotel.

Just back from a flying visit to Paris. The hotel did not disappoint. While small and basic it contained most things a visitor would need. It was clean and quiet (busy location) and the staff helpful.
Situated immediately across from the Gare de L'est, within a few minutes of Gard de Nord and the metro is about 15 mtrs away. Ideal for a quick stop over or to explore using the rail/metro.
Whilst the Louvre etc are within walking distance you will need to be fit/or have plenty of time to spare to walk to the sites/attractions as we found out.
On a Saturday night, just after arriving, the neighbourhood did have a 'feel' about it, however there were no problems, it just took time to acclimatise.
Would be happy to return again.

There are so many hotels in Paris, and having never been before I was at a complete loss as to know which to book. I decided to go for somewhere close to the train station as we were arriving by Eurostar, and the Marcel is 5-10 minutes walk from Gare du Nord, and turned out to be directly opposide Gare du l'Est. Some reviews have mentioned the seedy neighbourhood, I didn't get that feeling at all. A few streets away is the Canal St Martin, all chi-chi shops and bars, joggers and cyclists. A few rough sleepers were all I noticed, none of whom were begging, but I think homelesness is a problem for Paris in general.
As for the hotel, reception staff were excellent, good English, very friendly. The room was small but had plenty of room for a short stay, complementary water & coke and great air conditioning. Also very quiet despite facing a busy street. Breakfast was good, and items that ran out were replaced quickly. All in all, we had a great stay and were really pleased with this little find. My one tip would be, explore the area around the hotel- it might not be as picturesque as elsewhere at first look, but there are gorgeous churches, parks and shops to be found.

Dear Friend,
Thank you very much for sharing your feelings about your stay at the Hotel Marcel. I am thrilled to read that further you satisfaction with the hotel’s services, you also enjoyed the location. The 10th district of Paris is an undiscovered but blossoming area which deserve to be explored. The hotel staff is always available for indicating nice places for food and shopping, but it seems that you have happily already found some of them by yourself.
Hoping to be trusted once more and have the pleasure to welcoming you again soon.

Best regards,

To put things into perspective: this is Paris. Central Paris. 95% of the buildings are old and most apartments (and hotels) are tiny. Having said those things, Le Marcel is a decent, recently renovated/rebuilt establishment with lovely staff (except for the waiter during breakfast but maybe he was having a bad day). The location is great if you arrve/leave Paris by train, but as a neighborhood it isn't one of my favorites. It's safe, just doesn't look as nice as other places.
The room was small but great for a short stay (we stayed there one night). It is fully renovated, with good taste, minimalistic but functional and still cozy enough. There was air-co (big advantage in August!!) and a big flat TV. complimentary water/coke in the mini bar and toiletries. We loved it and would gladly return.
Only thing I didn't appreciate was the attitude of the waiter during breakfast; we asked for some clean forks/knives coz there was none on our table and he said he only has 2 hands and we should wait. Same attitude when another client mentioned there was no bread (she waited and waited and eventually got up and left). But he was the exception because otherwise the staff was extremely helpful and accommodating.

Modern, clean and a great location close to Gare de L'est, the taxi rank at the station is also a bonus. If you are fit and like to walk, the Louvre and Arc de Triomphe are within walking distance as well. The staff were really friendly, spoke good English and were most helpful. Good Wifi in the rooms. Plenty of eating choices around the Hotel and a supermarket right next door. The general district seemed a bit seedy but we never felt unsafe.

Room Tip: We had a room facing the street and it wasn't too noisy.

A gem of a hotel in a superb location opposite the Gare de l'est and a 5 minute walk from the Gare du nord (Eurostar). Sacre Coeur within walking distance and other sights within a short tube ride (Tube entrance 30 metres from hotel). Taxis, buses including transport to the airport readily available within metres of the hotel. Small, easy-to-miss, single door entrance, with lift and stairs to first floor reception. Modern, well equipped, beautifully clean rooms serviced by helpful, attentive and polite staff. No external noise from busy road in front due to excellent soundproofed windows which can be opened. Excellent buffet breakfast, with many choices, in a very pleasant setting. Light and airy reception with very pleasant bar area. Drinks ordered via reception staff. Will continue to use this hotel regularly when in Paris. A true find.

Recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. It's only a 10 min walk (max) from the Eurostar station and has a metro stop next door making it easy to get around. We arrived before check in and the hotel locked our bags away for us so we could go exploring. When we returned to check in our bags were all ready in our rooms for us and we were showed to the room by a member of staff. We had a junior suite which was lovely and had plenty of room. There is a fridge in the room and free wifi. The rooms were spotless and couldn't fault them. The hotel staff were lovely and would help with what to do round the city and where to find things. I had emailed them before to ask for recommendations of where to book trips and they had replied within an hour. On check out again they looked after our cases in a locked cupboard until we were ready to leave. I would recommend this hotel and if travelling to Paris would use them again.

Affirm your "Avant-gardisme" by staying at the Marcel. A typical Parisian Bourgeois-bohemian Hotel, located in a young and dynamic district of the capital.
