Description: Merci was created in March 2009, in the heart of the historic Haut-Marais district. The founders, Bernard and Marie-France Cohen, realised that Paris lacked a place which brought together the best in fashion, design, household goods, and friendly eating options. Merci's aim is to bring together, under one roof, products and customers who traditionally have not had the chance to meet : vintage furniture or contemporary creations; emerging new fashion brands or already-recognised collections; impulse buys, affordable for all or much rarer pieces, sometimes in limited editions. Fashionistas come from all over the world, local residents, young or not-so-young, students with their appetites already whetted. Small budgets, or large projects: there's something for everyone at MERCI. Merci calls this approach "The One and The Other" : because we don't want to have to choose between traditional or modern, local or international, simple or costly, mass-produced or individually made, but to bring them all together, and present the best of each world. Merci is a shop which works like a magazine. Over 15 exhibitions/events around a selection, and an original theatrical design in harmony with the year, have transformed the place into a "store-destination". The exhibitions' themes put over the merci point of view on a trend, a change in society, the work of a designer or an irresistible take on a project. The historic building, which was a wallpaper factory for 150 years, extends over more than 1500 sq. m, with a paved courtyard and a spectacular glass roof : three floors of light, inspiring space. The architect Valerie Mazerat has brought new life to this sleeping place : simple, generous, curious, exciting. Welcome to Merci !

“Hidden, Surprisingly hip, Expensive”

Easy to miss this gem as it is quite hidden. However, when you find it, you can wander around for an hour easily and finish off with lunch or just a cup of coffee. Very, very hip and stylish. The prices are sometimes just high, sometimes insane.

“Restaurant”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

Had passed this place several times and it was always full so tried it but was surprised by the prices and poor service. Waited 40 minutes for out salad after a glass, yes, a glass of luke warm soup arrived. It was luke warm as it sat on the counter for 10 minutes. We ended up cancelling the main and paid 30 euros for two soups, a wine, and a lemonade.... So if you want to over pay for cold soup and drinks this is the place!

“Pretentious boring food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Boring overpriced bio type food. Actually left after tasteless celery soup (served in cup as not enough to fill bowl - 8 euro). They took so long to bring salad I left and got a delicious baguette sandwich down the street for a fraction of the price of this uninteresting pretentious concept store.

“Fun and Fantastic Concept Store”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2014

Not sure what more can be said about the incredible Merci. The creativity of this place is endless. When we were in Paris in April the courtyard was full of plants, chickens and even goats. All that even before you enter this home store, cafe, bookstore, clothier. Every single item is a joy to behold--and of course purchase, if you can afford it! Best of all the proceeds from this store go to charity. Truly unique in the world. Go!
