“A good recommendation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014 via mobile

Like others we were recommended this place by the hotel at which we were staying. It was a good recommendation. The service and meals were excellent. There is an extensive wine list and all at a reasonable price. The only negative point was the tables are set very close together. One has to move a table and interrupt others to come and go. There is no room for private conversation and one is cheek by jowel with ones neighbour. Nevertheless despite these shortcomings we enjoyed the place.

“Excellent Food, super service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

On a recent trip to Paris, the hotel concierge recommended this small bistro. We went and loved it. In typical French bistro fashion it is tight and crowded. However, we found it friendly and fun. The wait staff were excellent and quickly switched to English when our high school French ran out. We ended up eating here 3 times in the 8 days we were in Paris. It was that good! We can heartily recommend the beef bourguignon, escargot in a dvinde garlic, parsley, butter sauce and the duck. The creme brulee was also among the best we've had. Kind of traditional and old school I know, but we loved it. Also, not too pricey as the house red wine is perfectly fine. There were lots of English speakers in the bistro, many of whom were return guests. I highly recommend this bistro.

“Nice atmosphere, tough steak”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2014

I so wanted to like this place. Nice atmosphere, good service, packed with locals (a good sign!), nice extras with the meal (salami and radish). Ordered the steak, which came with a delicious big bone with marrow and unremarkable potatoes. Big problem was steak was tough while cooked medium-rare to medium. Sorry. It was also strange that the dish came out literally 5 min after I ordered it, so there was no way it was cooked to order. Prices OK. Tables packed closely in a good way. Looks like the kind of place which warrants another try.

“Charming”

Lovely, quaint spot in a nice area of Paris. Giving it four stars only because my liver was a bit over cooked. Ordered pink and in was done well. All other courses were superb.

“Quintessentially Parisian!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2014

We set out to eat at a restaurant across the road from Chez Fernand which we had very much enjoyed on our last visit to Paris. We had set our minds on the Banqette de Veau there but found that it was closed on a Sunday. Are we the only people who find opening and closing times in Paris bizarre and totally unpredictable? Anyway, we were hungry and decided to pop into this restaurant because we liked the look of the menu. It of course had all the favourites. We started with green bean salad, which was light and lovely. I then splurged on a piece of turbot, which looked small but was meaty and cooked perfectly. My friend had the lamb, which he enjoyed too. Puddings were a large and fabulous creme brûlée and a chocolate pudding. A pretty standard meal of lovely French favourites, but all the food was very well done. Again, I was looking at what others were eating and they were doing a roaring trade on steak which came with a marrow bone on the plate. I had eaten beef the night before and did not want to have it again, but I left coveting this dish. Next time I am heading here for it. Service was fast and friendly. A warning though, the tables are so closed together, which we did not mind, that it is inevitable that you will have to work hard to ignore the people next to you or get in involved in their conversation. If you have state secrets to discuss over lunch, I would not come here. We are left with a dilemma now, two places we like in the same street. Next time, we'll have to toss a coin.
