“Enchanting Paris !!!”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

Checking into de la Portee, just after Novotel Brussels made us sad, initially. But as it transpired later that 26 million tourists visit Paris every year, we realized that THIS is Paris !! The bus no. 42 from Gare du Nord takes you to Michel Bizot & the hotel is just across the road. The friendly staff & the excellent location made us forget that you need to jump into the bed from the door & hop into the shower from the bed ! Presto & you are on the bed in one hop from the shower cubicle. The location was five star & the helpful staff showed us the details of the Metro lines. The hotel is in the eastern part of Paris & at nite while having our dinner at the Mac, at about 12 o'clock on both Friday & Saturday, there were lots of police & police dogs not only at the platform but on the roads as well. The lovely French bakery is just opposite to the hotel & even if you have breakfast at the hotel, try it out...it will never disappoint you. The Sunday market in front of the bakery makes it all the more interesting. Well into the nite when everything's' very quiet, you will hear the underground train rushing past, we heard it from Room 19. The 2 cookies on the first day was inviting, but a tea/coffee maker would have delighted us. The wifi provided free to us in the room had good connectivity. As the Metro stn was about 15 steps from the hotel, we never felt unsafe even in the middle of the nite while returning from the Lido Show. Overall, the experience was good & given a chance, will stay there again.

Room Tip: The small rooms make up for the location...go for it !!

My wife and I had 4 days in Paris during February 2014 and struggled to find the right type of hotel we like. We eventually chose here and didn't regret our decision for 1 second. We wanted a comfortable hotel convenient for visiting all the iconic sites of Paris but we were quite keen to stay outwith the centre in order to avoid the city evening hustle & bustle.
Our room at first seemed a bit on the small side but this was because we chose a large queen sized bed. This large bed was at the expense of floor space. Nonetheless the bed was extremely comfortable and the room was perfectly adequate.
Convenience for getting around Paris couldn't have been better. The Metro is on your doorstep and don't overlook the tram system which also at the top of the street. We tended to get an early start so had our coffee & croissant breakfast out. there are at least 6 places again on your doorstep.
If you are staying here, I would recommend tapping into the wonderful Jodie at Reception ... a font of all knowledge and a fantastic ambassador for the hotel. A wonderful American lady who came over for the owner's wedding 17 years ago .... and never went back home.
I could rabbit on for pages stressing the virtues of this hotel but it suffices to say that when we go back to Paris, we won't have to waste any time pondering where to stay

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor overlooking the street. There was some street noise so if you are a light s...

You can't beat the price and the location in a typical Parisian neighborhood. It's just a minutes walk to the Bois de Vincennes and only 8 Metro stations from Bastille. Love the Hotel! We always have a room on the top floor to have a nice view over the neighborhood! And you can have breakfast in your room for only 12€. Great place!

The friendly and helpful staff made our trip a very special one. The hotel is ideally situated next to the Metro and a stone's throw from the Bois de Vincennes which is a great way of escaping from the bustle. We would certainly stay again, but one suggestion-why not put a kettle in the bedrooms for that early morning cup of tea?

This is the second time I have stayed here. First trip to Paris in 2011, I stayed here in a twin room on the second floor with a friend of mine. There was a lot of room to move around especially since we both had large suitcases. Bathroom was a little small but that's expected in Paris. Second time here was in May 2013 with my partner and we stayed in a superior double room on the ground floor. Lovely room with a bigger bathroom and all the mod cons of an ipod dock, flat screen tv, air con and roller shutters to block out the noise and light when trying to get a good nights rest. There was even a little courtyard with two chairs and a table. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great the weekend we were there so couldn't use it. Staff were really friendly and were patient when we wanted to test out our horrible French (although all staff members speak English). Close to the train line and also close to cafes and restaurants with a patisserie is just across the road. Will stay here agin once in Paris.
