“A "Personal" Disappointment”
Reviewed 9 October 2012

This is a difficult review to write. The hotel is very pretty in a wonderful part of the city, but its unsusual characteristics made for an unpleasant stay for me and my wife. If you have seen pictures of the hotel, you know it is sort of helix-shaped with stairs going around and up to the top. Well, after having made reservations months ago (one of the lesser expensive rooms) we checked in and were given a room on level one. Well, OK, we did choose a cheaper room. That said, after having been in Paris at least 10 times previously, I can tell you that this room was way smaller than most; just miniscule, but very pretty. We can live with small. What really ruined the stay were two phenomenons: One, I guess because the staircase is circular some people had a tendency to run down the stairs. Every bounce could be heard in the room. Two, even worse, the night desk clerk, I guess trying to be friendly, seemed to have a loud cheerful conversation with guests as they arrived back to the hotel at night. Every conversation, every laugh could be heard distinctly in our room, and kept us up quite late.
So, I assume that if I were on one of the upper floors I would rate the hotel much higher, but unfortunately I was not. Given the prices for the better (upper floor) rooms, I think I would opt to stay someplace else.

Room Tip: Stay only on an upper flooor.

Very romantic , special place in great neighborhood, metro stop not close, but if you like to walk in great neighborhood across river from Louvre. Gorgeous dining room, lovely rooms, nice buffet breakfast. Rooms small, wifi not perfect, not cheap, bathroom small, but soooo much character !!!
If you never tried a small boutique hotel heres your chance!

Room Tip: If you can afford it go for the best! Why not we had the smallest and cheapest, but would go back fo...

A boutique hotel discretely located in the heart of the bustling St. Germain district of Paris.  It's beautifully decorated and has attracted many a famous person.  From our point of view, though, for the high price you pay for everything from the room to your drinks its overpriced relative to value.

What we liked:
- fantastic location in St. Germain and literally steps to wonderful art galleries, bistros, and shopping.
- very comfortable beds, pillows, and duvees
- the bathroom amenities were very nice and plentiful
- staff were very friendly.  In particular Charles the bartender was outstanding.  Aside from the fact he could create nearly any cocktail from memory and with ingredients all produced from scratch, he was friendly and entertaining.  It's wonderful go watch an artist at work.

To consider:
- some rooms do not have showers but rather tubs with hand held sprayers.
- the electronics in our room did not work well
- the electrical outlets are in the baseboards so our 110v converters would not fit.  An adapter is available at the front desk but be careful that your appliance has a converter built in.
- food and drinks in the hotel are very expensive, even by Paris standards (although I'd spurge and have Charles make you a cocktail)
- the pool is by reservation only and we were unable to get in to use it

Spent a few days in L'Hotel in Paris. Pretentious one, with small, obscure rooms and bad housekeeping and slow room service. Obviously typical french way of hospitality - one has to be happy to get e room in Paris and close all the eyes to obvious downsides.
The only good thing is a location - in the midle of the most charming part of Paris.
Yes, not to forget - for this kind of services and accomodation, it's shameless expensive.
To be avoidedd.

Room Tip: Non. Our suite was a size of a walk in closet.

As my title suggests it is sad to write this review, but I feel needed. L'Hotel was a great boutique hotel, with charm and a storied history,( Oscar Wilde lived and died here). The first time we stayed here we were put on the first floor over the front door. It was noisy, we complained but the hotel,(only 20 rooms), was fully booked and they couldn't move us. When I booked this trip seven months ago, I requested a higher floor at the rear of the hotel to avoid noise. We were given a rear hotel room but on te first floor. Very noisy! We asked to move and the following day they did move to us the same room, third floor, much better for noise. The sad thing is in the details. It is not a cheap endeavor to stay at L'Hotel, €380 (thats the starting price) a night thats $550 a night and the rooms are very small,(this is not a fault of the hotel,it's that way it was built), so if your rooms are small and you're charging THAT much it had better be excellent. Here are my list of gripes:

Internet in room spotty and sometimes non exitant.
Mould growing in silicone on bathtub.
Bathtub is tiny.
Completely cracked wash basin,(this would only take $200 to replace), but they have left it there, cracked, enamel missing.
One night we returned to the hotel and the barman had left, and no one else in the hotel knew how to mix a cocktail. A fivestar hotel with no barman back up!!
Retuned to the room yesterday at 4.00pm,(we had left the room at 8.30am), to find it was in the middle of being made up...at 4.00pm!! All we wanted was to rest our throbbing feet,(Paris is a walking city), before dinner but we had to sit outside our room on the stairs and wait 20 minutes for it to be finished. Why are they still doing rooms at 4.00pm? It's because I believe they only have one maid for 20 rooms and no system of checking when people leave their room.
Elevator!! Two rooms on each floor are next to the tiny elevator,(quaint, it fits two people), it is noisy especially at 6.30am when people start arriving/leaving.
The hotel has the cutest and most romantic pool in the basent, you can book it for an hour a time, BUT, as we found out one night, only before 8.30pm as they shut the pool at 9.30pm...why?

So in summation, rooms tiny, managent lacking, maintenance bad, internet spotty, and very expensive. I this were a $250 a night room I would be upset but not angry, I am angry and feel somewhat cheated.
The hotel is charming, but the blush is off this very expensive rose.

Two months prior to our stay, we requested the assistance of the concierge at L’Hotel to book our dinner reservations.

But, the concierge only booked two of the four reservations correctly.

The first night, the concierge booked our reservation at the wrong restaurant! We requested a reservation at Jean Francois Piege, but the concierge booked a reservation at Brasserie Thomieux, instead.

The third night, we ended up without a dinner reservation! We requested a reservation at Chatomat. Supposedly, the concierge called the restaurant and left a message. But, Chatomat only accepts reservations between 15:00 and 19:00, and the concierge never called them back during those hours to make our reservation.

We were so frustrated after the first night that we complained to Stephane Morvan, the Deputy General Manager. Stephane sent complimentary champagne and chocolates to our room, along with a handwritten note apologizing for the ‘misunderstanding.’ But, this conciliatory gesture did not solve the problems.

L’Hotel may be charming, comfortable, and conveniently located, but their concierge service is totally incompetent.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at the end of August to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday. A quick and relatively cheap taxi ride from Orly, l'Hotel is in a superb location in St.Germain des Pres, a couple of minutes stroll from the Seine and Pont des Arts one way and the St.Germain metro the other. Many great shops/bars/restaurants in the area but the hotel is in a very calm street and it is unbelieveably quiet at night.
Fantastic room (we had a chic suite overlooking the courtyard), helpful, very discreet staff and a tranquil but decadent atmsosphere was perfect for a weekend without the kids!
The steam room/pool is free to book for private use and is an absolute must!
The restaurant in the hotel was closed as were all of the art gallery 'shops' in the street but that wasn't a problem for us.
I know I won't want to stay anywhere else in Paris now I have discovered this hotel. Expensive, but worth it!
