Owner description: A small park on the Île de la Cité.
Reviewed 13 June 2012

One of only three parks on the Ile de Cite this one is at the western tip. A small but delightful park in which to relax and watch the river traffic go by. With excellent views of the Latin Quarter on the left bank and the awesome Louvre on the right. A delightful spot.

Although it's long been discovered and usually crowded because tourists take the Seine boat trips (Vedettes du Pont Neuf) from this point, it's a very cute, triangle shaped park at the end of Ile de la Cite, accessed through somewaht concealed narrow steps behind the Statue of Henry IV. The gate of the park is the point where King Philip the Fair had Jacques de Molay, the Grand Master of the Knights Templar Order, burned at stake in March 1314. Take your sandwich and wine with you: the park is a perfect place for small outdoor meals. Although parks are usually closed in Paris after 20:00-20:30, I witnessed several times that this one stays open until later hours. Also, although there are signs that it forbidden to step on the grass during certain months, it's not an obeyed rule, so it's a nice picnic place.

Situated off the Pont Neuf (opposite Henri IV statue) you take the stairway down toward the Cruise Boats. Go straight past them to a grassy park with many benches lining the sides of the triangle. Perfect spot for a picnic lunch--pick up sandwich and wine from Samarataine Store nearby and relax. You will have au pairs with their charges, lunchtime lovers and musicians for company, especially if you wander to the tip. Never crowded and always pleasant. Square du Verte Galant
