“Great stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013

Pros
+ Great location - 2 subway stops minutes away, cafes literally next door in all directions, grocery store and pharmacy across the street
+ Low price
+ Friendly
+ Reasonably spacious room by European/Paris standards

Con
- Breakfast is a bit expensive
- By a train station - some homeless people at night etc, busy area and never felt unsafe though
- Some other guests said it was noisy - think it helps to be on a high floor

Conclusion: Overall one of our favourite hotels this trip. I know the reviews are mixed, but I'm not sure what you expect from a central hotel in Paris for this price. We did stay for breakfast twice and found the 11 euro charge a bit steep for a continental breakfast. Near the end of our stay we ate nearby for about half of the price. The grocery store across the street is also fantastic for cheap snacks, water, or whatever else you need.

Tips: If you arrive at a train station that is not St Lazare, you will probably need to take the RER to there first (it is then a 5 minute walk from the St Lazare RER to the hotel). If you are arriving within Paris the normal transit tickets will also work for the RER, you do not need a special ticket. Buy the books of 10 each ('carnets') to save money.

This was the first hotel that we stayed at on our trip. It was a great location being so close to the Metro and St Lazare. There was a pharmacy and supermarket across the road and many eateries and bars around. There's also a Starbucks around the corner, money machines and the post office in close proximity. We had a front room on the 3rd floor and although it was noisy it added to the atmosphere of being in Paris. Nothing that closing the windows and earplugs can't fix! Room was small but functional. Bathroom was great. We had breakfast there one morning which was nice and filling but there are cheaper options elsewhere. Lobby was small and found one of the staff really friendly and entertaining. There was no fridge but a good wardrobe and an in-room safe. Bed comfortable. Had desk and chair. I reported a leaking shower head which was not fixed during the 7 days we were there. Would be difficult in summer without air conditioning. Woke to the smell of bread being baked one day - delicious! WiFi was difficult to log onto compared to other hotels we stayed in.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the street if you want a quiet sleep.

I decided to book L'Ouest Hotel as it was near the St Lazare station for our train on the next day to other parts of France. I was glad to also find out that it was near to Galeries Lafayette, Printemps, The Opera & among others. The room was just average but big...the bathroom was huge! I had to take a panorama pic of it!

The hotel was OK in that the location was very good to walk to most of the sites & there are lots of restaurants within walking distance but be careful & shop around for pricing especially if you like to drink with your meals. The con side included a very quaint room especially if you are above average height or weight. The street that the hotel is on has a busy bus stop & if you have to open the window because they have no air condition then it can get noisy. Don't have breakfast in the hotel there are several cafes & a Starbucks very close & they are cheaper. The room was very clean & the staff were very nice & helpful. There is a Metro Station across the street from the hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a room off of the main street

Maybe by Paris standards it is a good hotel and a good value. The hotel is very basic with bathroom being the only thing above average. The rest – room, lobby, breakfast, bedding, TV, are at par with average at best. The location is convenient being close to subway, but other than that, it is very noisy with a bar open late on ground floor. Without air conditioner, during warm weather - the choice is between sleeping with open window with crazy noise from the bar or with closed window in stuffy room. Paris also disappointed - except very center - it is rather boring, unimpressive and rather dirty. The majority of windows in the buildings being dark make impression of ghost town. The majority of cafes in reality are bars – to find decent food within reasonable price range is a challenge. Drunks and homeless are plentiful. On positive note – people in general are friendly and museums are top notch.

I stayed there for just one night, the room was very clean, bathroom super nice and new. The man at the reception was very friendly and helpful. My bed was on wheels so needed to get used to that. All in all a very nice stay and I would definitely come back!

I stayed in this hotel with a friend for 2 nights. We both liked the hotel very much. First of all, the hotel is very close to the St. Lazare metro station where metro lines 3, 12, 13, and 14 stops at. Therefore, it is really convenient to access to many tourist attractions. Moreover, if you intend to arrive and/or leave Paris using the train station "Gare de Lyon", metro line 14 provides access to this station as well.
The room we stayed was small but it is usually the case in many European hotels. The bathroom is not too small. There is a shower not a bathtub (no problem for a short stay). The room and bathroom was renovated. Therefore, it looks really clean and modern. The corridor is too narrow but who cares! The elevator is small, too. But we (2 people) could use the elevator with our bags comfortably. Our room was on the second floor. We did not have any problems with wifi. Not a very good one but you can check your emails or browse tripadvisor for suggestions..etc
We paid 113 Euro per night for the room. Breakfast was not included in this price but you can purchase a continental breakfast for 10 euros. We did not purchase the breakfast. Instead we had our breakfast in different patisseries enjoying delicious French croissant or "pain au chocolat". The room price is really good in Paris especially in the high season.
We returned to the hotel around midnight. There were no safety problems at that time. After midnight, Paris is not too safe anywhere. Just be careful and do not be alone after 2 or 3 a.m. (anywhere in Paris).
In overall, our stay was comfortable enough. Personally, I was looking only for a good night sleep at a central location and I got what I want. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place. However, if you want to stay in a clean hotel for a good price, then you should stay in L'Ouest Hotel.
