“A Birthday weekend in Gay Paris”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

Perfectly located for the Gay district of La Marais in Paris. For a centrally located Paris hotel the rooms, a superior double are quite large. The bed was a good size and very comfortable. Good glazing kept the noise of the city out when needed, but you are city centre so don't expect silence. Did not eat there so cant comment, not did we need much of the staff to assist. When they did, they did so with politeness, no complaints here. To echo the other comments, they are a little tight with the toiletries, why say you've got Clarins and not replace it, a bit mean for a 350 euro room. One day I dropped a loo roll in the sink...they neatly folded the corners and put its sodden mess back on the bar....weird chambermaids. None the less a fabulous time was had

Room Tip: Great for the gay traveller. Get a superior double at least. At the moment the department store acro...

We stayed in a standard double room for 5 nights at the beginning of October 2013. We almost missed the entrance since it is a smaller hotel with limited signage but we loved the location immediately! The room was lovely and quite spacious and we had two large windows that opened up so we could overlook the street below. We were very pleased at how quiet the room was considering all the activity outside. The courtyard, breakfast room and hallways were all decorated in a very warm and inviting French style. The hotel is just a short walk to the Metro and tons of cafes, shops and sites and we found some great restaurants within a short walk from the hotel. We found it a perfect base for our visit to Paris and we can honestly say that the Villa Mazarin exceeded our expectations! We would definitely stay there again!!!!

Paris is expensive!! This hotel is moderately priced by Paris standards. For 247 euros you get a standard room which is small (typical of Paris) but clean and with a really plush comfortable bed, good crisp high quality linens, and good storage space. Bathroom also small but with updated fixtures (we do miss the bidets though) and good plumbing. The room has a bar sink, glass ware and a refrigerator which is great for chilling your own wine and having snacks (cheese from Androuet, baguette from Kayser for instance). There is also coffee/tea making facility in the room which is rare in Paris and, frankly, greatly influenced our choice of this hotel. We really appreciate being able to make our own coffee in the morning and enjoy a leisurely cup in our room before heading out. It also means you can buy a delicious croissant (the best value in Paris) to have with your in room coffee and not pay the exorbitant breakfast charge that is ubiquitous at all Paris hotels (minimum 12 euros for one person). The main negative about the room was that it needs some minor maintenance. The wall to wall carpet was threadbare in front of the bathroom and one of the bathroom tiles was loose and fell off. These are minor things but should be taken care of. They did not effect our comfort but give the impression that the management is careless to detail. The location of the hotel was perfect. One block from a metro stop and central to walk to the Marais, Left Bank, Ile de la Cite and Ile St-Louis, and many other attractions. The staff were all very friendly and helpful Especially Mr. Laurent!

Room Tip: We had a front room #45 which despite being on a busy street was quiet, good double glazed windows...

The choice of hotels in Paris is almost overwhelming and trying to select value and location is even more so challenging.
We have stayed in a number of hotels on both sides of the Seine depending on where we wanted to spend most of our time. We had four days in Paris before returning to Sydney after being in Europe for six weeks. We selected the Villa Mazarin as this time we wanted to be on the right bank and it was central to the Marie.
Upon arrival our room was ready and the reception staff handled our booking in a professional manner.
Later in the day the reception staff changed and we met Laurent at reception. We wanted some recommendations for dinner restaurants for the four nights. Laurent was simply amazing. He selected three places (one we visited twice- Le Gorille Blanc). He was so helpful making all the phone bookings and advising on times to eat to get good service.
The room (on the 5th floor) was a superior king bed room ( not cheep but very comfortable being over two stories). The space was much appreciated at the end of our holiday.
My only criticism was the cost of the simple breakfast. We found many more interesting breakfast places down the street.
The room was very clean and the bathroom excellent. In summary the room was airy clean and well maintained- a top place to stay in the 3e in Paris.

Room Tip: If your budget can extend to a superior double and you want space ask for a room on level 5

Pros
Minutes from the Seine and the Notre Dame
Nice staff
Good quality towels and bed linen.
Decent sized rooms.

Cons

Shabby, tired, faded interiors.

Most of the fittings broken or cracked or stained or simply not working.

Carpets very dirty and threadbare - in fact, I couldn't bring myself to walk on them in bare feet.

The 'terrace' is in fact an interior, sunless ground floor walkway between two areas of the hotel.

Paint chipped off everywhere and walls scuffed and marked.

This hotel was probably very smart about 10 years ago but is in a neglected state now. If you like nice hotels with a bit of luxury, then this is not for you. Sadly, I won't be going there again.

This hotel is just a gem!!! Everything about it was wonderful!! Location could not have been more perfect for the area and for access to the Metro. The beds were so comfortable and the ambience was amazingly charming! The bathroom is beautifully designed and their Clarins bath products were just wonderful to use every morning. We stayed in a 2 story room and would stay there every time we come! Martin at the front desk was always helpful!!
