Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile

Reviewed 19 April 2014

Stayed here for 2 nights in 2 deluxe rooms. This is a very big hotel in a good location. We had nice view from our rooms of the city and Eiffel Tower. It was as expected even though 4 stars might be stretching it slightly.

2 odd things were;

1. Bathroom doors - These were double, frosted, glass doors with no possibility to lock.
2. Electricity - The first morning of our stay the electricity disappeared on our whole floor at about 8.40AM. I pointed this out to house keeping staff on our floor and they said it was maintenance. Electricity came back within 20 minutes but one might think that if this was maintenance maybe this could have been done on a better time than when everybody was getting ready in the morning, not nice to be in the shower and suddenly everything gets dark...

We picked this spot because it was within walking distance of the start and finish of the Paris Marathon which we were running. Fantastic choice. Even our "unrenovated" rooms were just fine. Free breakfast was huge. Metro station in attached upscale mall. Big thumbs up.

We stayed for 3 nights for our honeymoon and our expect ions were high. We were upgraded as it was our honeymoon which was lovely. But I dread to think what we would have been given if this was an upgrade. Rooms were vulgar! Overpriced, smelly, no drink facilities at all (complimentary) but the bed was comfy.

As a Hyatt platinum member I booked here with high expectations. They were not met.

Rooms were tired .
spent hours trying to get wifi to work. It didn't.
Air conditioning didn't work
Broken closet door
Major stains on carpet...vomit?
Had to move rooms..minor improvement
View of Eiffel Tower and arc de triomph was good
Food was truly awful.. How can a chef screw up a club sandwich and a plate of pasta? In Paris? And by the way we picked these not because we were unadventurous, quite the contrary, we love good food from many cuisines. And it wasoverpriced.
Only saving grace were delightful staff. Emilie and Victoria come to mind also the several technicians trying to fix things.

I made a mistake in not checking trip advisor and assuming that a Hyatt Regency in a major city would be up to a certain standard. Not so.

Room Tip: I would choose somewhere else but if you do go ask for a view of Eiffel Tower.

As a long-time Hyatt-Gold member, I was very disappointed with this hotel. The location of the hotel is good: not too far from the center of Paris and the hotel is attached to a major convention center and a "high end" shopping mall. However, the rest of the experience was well below expectations. This property is undergoing renovations, so some of the rooms have been renovated, while others have not. It appears that they must have started renovations at the bottom and are working their way up to higher floors. While I had a renovated room, my business colleague said that his room was very old and worn. The rooms are small (which is not unusual for hotels in Paris), but even the renovated rooms have obvious deficiencies. Many of the amenities that you expect from a higher end hotel: toiletries were minimal, there were no wash cloths, and no coffee maker. Even more disturbing was the bedding: the covers for the decorative pillows on the bed were filthy (it doesn't appear that they are routinely laundered); and there was no cover sheet, only two (single bed) duvets on the queen-size bed. The latter issue was a real problem, since the thermostat appeared to have little control over the room temperature, so the room was very hot and it was difficult to sleep under the heavy duvet, without a sheet as an alternative cover. On top of that, the fans in the ventilation systems in the bedroom and bathroom sounded like a wind-tunnel (only hot air coming in). Due to the renovations, they shut the electricity off for about 10 minutes between 8:00 and 9:00 AM to re-set the electrical system. While this outage was announced by a note on the bed, this was about the most inconvenient time possible, for somebody getting ready in the morning for business meetings (if it was a planned outage, why not during a 2:00 to 4:00 AM window??). The bathtub in the renovated rooms had very high walls (which could pose a problem for older or smaller people or children, to get into and out of) and the drain cover that pops out of the tub floor has a very sharp edge around it, which could cut the feet of unsuspecting people standing in the shower (I found out the hard way). The prices in the restaurant were very high (25 Euros for a cheeseburger!) and the breakfast buffet (approximately the same price) was extremely crowded and noisy (tables are jammed together) and many of the food items ran out without being replaced. When we were checking out, I was surprised that, for a two night's stay, my bill was nearly 100 Euros higher than my colleague's bill. The front desk staff just said that they must have made a mistake on his bill and, without further explanation, they raised his bill (i.e. charged his credit card an additional charge) rather than directly addressing my question about the cause of the discrepancy. Overall, a very disappointing experience....

This hotel is expensive and poor value for money. Location is ok but the hotel is tatty inside and basic amenities are not available.
There is no kettle or iron and ironing board. Rooms look worn out and paint is chipped and the bath looks dirty. The shower faucet was broken. Breakfast was really basic and 24 Euro each. I will not stay here again.

We ended up on the 32 floor and so had terrific views including of the Eiffel Tower. The rooms were very small though and somewhat careworn. The breakfast was poor. The staff were friendly but we did have to wait ten minutes to check in which was astonishing.

Room Tip: High up and with view of the Eiffel Tower
