“Vive L'Arc”
Reviewed 13 October 2012

We have been to Longchamp for the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe for the last three years. This is pretty much the only race meeting that my husband and I attend - but our friends go regularly in the UK and we all think it's great.

On Arc day they organise free shuttle buses from the Porte D'Auteil metro station to the track. These run constantly and make getting to and from the track really straightforward. Entrance fee is only 8€ (free for ladies with hats) and the atmosphere is excellent.

There seemed to be more concession stands this year (2012) or perhaps there were fewer people. Prices are reasonably expensive a 500 ml draught beer is 10€, but a bottle of wine seems a bit better value at 20€. Once a concession has run out they won't get any more supplies during the event, so when the stand closest to us ran out of wine by the second race, we had to travel further and further to buy another drink.

It's easy to move between the parade ring and the stands. You do need to plan your betting though, since all betting on track is through the French equivalent of the Tote (no on track bookmakers are allowed) and the queues can be very long. Another long queue can be expected at the toilets - plan ahead!

Overall, it's great fun and we're hoping to go back next year.

My first visit to Longchamp and it was very enjoyable afternoon. Easy to bet and collect winnings! Only downside a bit expensive for food and drink but no different from other major arenas

“It's further away than it looks”
Reviewed 10 October 2012

Don't be fooled into thinking that it's a five minute walk from the subway as the reality is that it is an hour's walk across the Bois de Boulogne along paths that are not signposted. Inside it is generally crowded, so much so that you will invariably miss several races queuing at concession stands or walking between the parade ring and the course. Only the favoured few get near the finishing line so be prepared to watch the big screens. Getting away is a nightmare and a simple ride of 5km will set you back 30 Euros in a taxi.

“class weekend”
Reviewed 9 October 2012

we travelled with leger holidays to longchamp, had a great day looking around paris on the saturday and even better day at the races the following day, with a fantastic and friendly atmosphere making it a weekend to remember. looking forward to next year already, paddock area is great for viewing. bars were charging 10 euros a pint of draught kronenburg but you could buy cans of it cheaper at the snack bars.baguettes were the best option for a snack. it only costs 8 euros entry great value and even better for a lady wearing a hat ,free entry, racecard free as well .
