This elegant spot on the quiet ave Rapp in the 7e provides superb food, attentive and friendly service and elegant surrounding worthy of its Michelin Bib Gourmand. The Euro 38 fixed price dinner menu is, relatively speaking, a bargain in this neighborhood. We dined on one of the evening’s specials, a perfectly prepared John Dory in a surprising lobster and mushroom broth. Dessert was another special recommended by our waiter, fresh strawberries from the Loire Valley with the richest Crème Chantilly imaginable. Le Clos des Gourmands is distinguished by the quality of its wait staff who were friendly and knowledgeable. Our young waiter spoke excellent English but was also happy to slow down his French to accommodate our efforts, and the Maitre’d was genuinely gracious. Make no mistake that this restaurant, within hailing distance of the Eiffel Tower, is not a ‘locals only’ club. Particularly at the earlier seating, non-Parisians will occupy at least half the seats, but those who still believe in the stereotype of snooty and indifferent Parisian service should be prepared to have their preconceived notions challenged.
