“The best, ever”
Reviewed 28 May 2012

This 3 star restaurant deserves every accolade. Every dish, every course, was fabulous, fresh and beautifully presented. Combined with the attentive but not overly formal service and the Versailles-like decor, we were simply overwhelmed by our experience.

“Beautiful setting, great service, food needs wine”
Reviewed 23 May 2012

Let me start by saying that this is a lovely setting for fine dining. The wait staff are attentive and thorough.

The other great thing about restaurants such as this in Paris is that you can get really dressed up, should you wish, and not feel at all out of place.

Unfortunately, my husband and I found the food to be underwhelming. The modern take on French food, apparently, means to take away the lovely sauces and intricate platings. As a result, we found that our plates were often of one flavour note. My pork main was carved at the table and piled on a plate with little regard for the visual, for example. My husband's beef was perfectly cooked but flavourless- even cooked medium rare it lacked any beef flavour.

We have long believed that this kind of modern French food has lost its sauces so that one can enjoy wine more easily with it. (Is it because traditional sauces interact with the palate and wreck the taste of wine? I don't know) We don't drink alcohol, so it is possibly our problem in this case. I would not recommend the restaurant if you didn't drink wine, because I think the food needs it for flavour.

As with many restaurants in Paris, the chef came around and made small talk which is always a nice touch.

And as other reviewers have stated, the prices are astronomical, as they are in Paris' fine dining restaurants.

“Exceptional in every respect”
Reviewed 13 May 2012

We had been on a cruise from Lisbon to Normandy. The concierge on the ship told us they had confirmed our reservation at Le Meurice. Since we had been at Alaine Ducasse couple evenings before that and the reservation was fine we had no reason to expect a problem. But, when we arrived, they did not have our reservation. The hostess introduced us to the restaurant manger who could not have been more concerned or helpful. We waited in the bar, which is a place not to miss even if you don't eat there. He returned to say the restaurant was full but we could have a table in the adjoining dining room and order from the Le Meurice menu.
Just as we prepared to order he did bring us into "the room". Our table was next to a small wine cellar where there was a table. We asked if the next time we dined there we could eat in the cellar space. It was really cute.
From there on the service continued to be impeccable and the food worthy of the great reputation. If you want a first class Paris dining experience, do not hesitate to make a reservation and enjoy this terrific experience.
