As a Japanese in living abroad I sometimes crave for Japanese food. We've been to a Japanese restaurant in Düsseldorf a few weeks ago, what a difference with this place... in a negative way.

From the outside everything looked ok : a simple Japanese diner interior with only one free table and a menu similar to other Izakaya like restaurants. But once the food came... It simply wasn't good enough.

There must be much better Japanese restaurants in Paris.

We have discovered the Rue Saint-Anne this trip for the first time and already tried a few other restaurants in this street. However, the informal, cozy experience of this place combined with the freshness of the ingredients and the high quality of the dishes, really makes this restaurant something special.
Admitted, it is somewhat cramped inside and the air conditioning doesn't seem to work as well as in some of the other restaurant in the same street, but the excellent quality of the food and the speedy service makes more than up for it. Recommended!

As an accustomed client of this restaurant I was never disappointed by the meals in the menu at noon, here you're far from the dull sushi eatery which is not even run by Japanese. Indeed, this restaurant serves only traditional meals such as Donburis (about fifteen varieties, the tempura is tasty, the one with beef and the other with raw tuna are my favorite). (Very) hot soups are also tasty, and will cheer you up during winter. There's a lot of Japanese expats and tourists eating in Naniwa-Ya, a sign of quality.

An another good point is that the meals are made in front of you, anyone can see the meals cooked and the kitchen is very clean.
Last but not the least, it is not expensive at all, you can have a great deal of Japanese food for only 12 euros with a menu. The tea is served at will. If you wanna eat with friends or in solo or with your girlfriend (not for a date though) this is the place to eat in.

Naniwa-Ya is one of the rarities in Paris: a Japanese-run, Japanese restaurant.

The food here very good and less expensive than the lesser-quality "Japanese" restaurants around it. They make take the time hand-make their dishes, including their gyoza(!), and have many small dishes that you will be hard-pressed to find elsewhere in Paris (e.g., natto).

The service was very good, if not on the polite and quiet side, and you will find that many of the diners here are Japanese expats and visitors.

Our meal was a treat, and I'd gladly recommend this spot to anyone looking for good, authentic Japanese food in Paris!
