“Excellent food, pretty terrible service”
Reviewed 10 February 2013

My partner and I were lucky enough to catch lunch here at about 14h with no wait. We were seated in a tiny corner table and given menus. After trying to motion the attention of the server, we were finally able to order after about 15 minutes. The restaurant was busy, but the one server in house was not paying attention. Our food came after a 25 minute wait or so, and it was incredibly delicious. You can see a chef using fresh ingredients and making everything by hand in the tiny kitchen in the back. We asked for a pitcher of water and were not given it until 10 minutes into the meal. I loved the food and would have given this place 5 stars were it not for the bad service.

“Great vegetarian experience”
Reviewed 17 January 2013 via mobile

We checked the place out before visiting Paris so we had an idea of what to expect, but this place went beyond my expectations. The place is small admittedly but that really adds to the atmosphere and the style of the cuisine, it's a very social eating environment and the decor, with eclectic African art and crafts really adds to this feeling. The food comes in one huge bowl for sharing and eclectic is the right word again for the food, a good amount of flavours that compliment each other well. Service was adequate and warm but not overt and overbearing which some people would like but I prefer being left to it personally anyway.

Summarised a great vegetarian friendly place with great food only 15 mins away from Notre Dame. Worth looking for!

“Well cooked food, tight fit!”
Reviewed 13 January 2013

A bit late with the review but better late than never! A beautiful walk (we got lost), through a beautiful part of Paris, led us to Godjo, where, despite making a reservation (which they took as we explained we had an 11 month-old baby with us), we had to wait about 30 minutes whilst they ummed and arred over whether they could find room for us! We finally made in through the door. But not to sit down. After making us take the baby and stroller down the narrowest stairs in the world to a nice but entirely unsuitable place for us to sit with a baby (i.e. on the floor) we took our lives back in our hands to climb the north face of the Eiger stairs again (with all the baby paraphernalia). Safely back upstairs, they finally felt some pity towards us and shoe-horned us into the smallest piece of real-estate that didn't already have an inhabitant - literally just behind where the front door opened (frequently). Things could only get better of course, and they did. The food, whilst being, in my opinion, a little bit "Westernized" in terms of its "spice treatment" (I prefer a bit more of a burn!) was all very well prepared and delicately flavored. My wife (who is Ethiopian) disagreed with my murmurings of Westernization and claimed that the food had a very authentic flavor. Who am I to disagree. We did our usual and shared a meat and a vegetarian mixed platter, with some tebs on the side. All the meat was very tender and well cooked (although I prefer my tebs a bit more well done). The doro wot was very nice but missing the egg! A crime of capital proportions in my book. The kei wot was actually delicious, with a wonderful balance to the flavors. The best part (and this feels odd saying as a committed carnivore) was the shurro which was out of this world - almost dessert-like in its spicy sweetness. With dinner over, we borrowed a tin-opener to extricate ourselves from our David Blaine-like dining position, and left Godjo thankful that we had found it and been patient enough to wait to get seated. Overall, we were full of nicely flavored, authentic food but, sadly, not in any hurry to return.

“Real food in a crowded small place”
Reviewed 20 November 2012 via mobile

This was the best Ethiopian food experience we ever had. After three days eating good bread and good cheese, we really needed real food. We were delighted to find this place. We tried the avocado salad and the cream of lentils as starters. Both were delicious. We ordered the regular and the vegetarian combo; there was no
leftover. The place is tiny and it was packed.
