What a fabulous hotel: stylish yet comfortable, opulent yet tasteful, with the best staff I've ever encountered in a French hotel - or any hotel, come to that. As for its location, it really can't be beaten for easy access to the grounds of the Château de Versailles. Turn left at the hotel gates & the Porte de la Reine is right in front of you, with free access to the estate. The Queen's Gate has the added advantage of putting the hotel at the end of a virtual cul-de-sac, which means no noisy traffic passing at night.
My sister & I followed the advice of other Tripadvisors & booked a garden-facing twin room in the original Palace hotel for our 4-day stay. On arrival we were upgraded to a balcony room on the 3rd floor, which was swiftly changed to a larger 4th floor balcony room (with profuse apologies) when we discovered that the mini-bar fridge in room 304 didn't work.
Our daily Room Service breakfasts were beautifully presented & quite delicious. My only complaint was that I always received pains au chocolat instead of the brioche I'd ordered the night before. Since the other items I'd ordered arrived correctly, I didn't feel the need to complain officially - I can only assume the kitchen's brioche specialist was on holiday during our stay.
We dined in the hotel's Verandah Restaurant on our final evening: our meals were filling & delicious & again the staff were friendly, courteous & professional. Our table in the restaurant faced west, giving us a delightful view of goat- & sheep-filled fields & a glorious sunset while we dined. Afterwards we enjoyed coffee & macaroons in the Gallery.
We utilised the hotel's private car booking service to get us to & from CDG airport more smoothly. It wasn't much more expensive than our airport taxi fares at this end, but the drivers were uniformed & the vehicles were Mercedes, with fresh bottles of water & umbrellas inside, for our comfort & convenience. It seemed a safer way to travel, especially during the Paris rush-hour. Neither journey went without a hitch, though: we lost an hour trying to locate our driver on arrival at CDG (he'd been told we were flying in from Rome to a different terminal); & the driver for our return journey arrived an hour early to collect us from the hotel - again, he'd been given the wrong information, although I suspect from within the car firm rather than from the hotel.
Unfortunately, his unexpectedly early arrival meant I didn't have time to tip all the hotel's wonderful staff individually before our departure. Instead I left a large sum of euros at Reception, to be distributed amongst all the staff who had looked after us so royally. I just hope it didn't mess up the system too much!

Room Tip: Room 414 (a double or twin) in the original Palace building is spacious & airy, with French wind...

This hotel is awesome in many aspects as follows: fabulous property, location right next to Versailles palace grounds, historic building, and of course Hilton comfort. Would stay in the Palace and avoid the pavilion. The pavilion is across the garden from the main area of the hotel without much evident security. Lobby door open late night without attendant.

Great location , great spa , excellent food and 5 stars service. Wonderful Guerlian Spa facilities. Amazing view from the balcony. The location just overlooking the chateau Versailles that makes you feel part of the royal family. Selection of good French wines and quality of the food was excellent. Just short walk to beautiful village centre that you can have delicious French food and fresh vegetables from the market. Gracious, kid and helpful people too. Special thanks to housekeeping staff (old man) with beautiful smile. I love the Trianon palace.

Having had the Trianon Palace recommended to us earlier this year, we were all the more surprised & profoundly disappointed with what we actually found...
The public spaces in the original building ( widely featured in the on-line advertising with their splendid furnishings & décor) in everyway evoke the glamour the hotel's trading name suggests : "Waldorf Astoria". We rudely discovered we were is in fact NOT booked into the original building at all..but were to be shunted across the garden into what looks from the outside, more like a tricked-up low-rise office block than the hotel 'annexe' it proved to be.
This disappointment is confirmed when one enters the unidentified, so-called 'residential foyer', beyond the conference entry point, Entering what should rightly be another luxury foyer, one finds instead one has stumbled into a totally underwhelming space possessing a distinct air of abandonment due to there being neither flowers nor decoration existing (save inexplicably for a pair of framed & badly-mounted T-Shirts (?) & a ghostly TV -- playing silently) to relieve the distinct feeling one must've strayed into some nondescript commercial building poorly converted into some hospitality venue of dubious quality, Which feeling is compounded by what inexplicably seems to in fact be a sometime ---& now-defunct--- "Sports Bar"! Whaaat?!. SPORTS BAR?
A distinct air of abandonment begins to seize the unsuspecting newcomer as it becomes evident the actual furniture is an indiscriminate mixture of old garden furniture(?) & lack-lustre commercial seating weirdly distributed around the first two foyer entry levels...
"This...", I queried the General Manager in my later complaint letter "...is The Trianon Palace?, so elegantly promoted on your company's website?
To this he has never responded ....

Upon entering our room on L3 (overlooking someone's backyard) we realised it caught directly the extremely intense afternoon sun...& naturally it was becoming very hot, there being no external sunshade whatsoever. We tried unsuccessfully to employ the air conditioning..but to no avail. Upon requesting someone to service this problem, we were unceremoniously told "it is Winter > the air conditioning doesn't operate now" So why advertise you have such a facility..when for a considerable part of the year it cannot be enjoyed?, Where's the luxury in that? I also asked the GM.
Further silence.
The narrow bath (very French bathing!) doubles as a shower...OK but the shape proved most treacherous as there was no flat section on which to conveniently stand, so to speak. We both slipped & fell trying to employ the shower, & when we complained, only THEN was a (decorative but useless) stabilising 'mat' provided. This proved even MORE dangerous due to the fact that when wet it failed to grip in any way whatsoever & one was put at even greater risk of falling than before! Absurd stuff!
The Room Service Manager left some marshmallows & a small cake, writing that : " we feel very sorry for your accident..."
We regarded his response as inadequate, given the gravity of the occurrence, & the unprofessional attempt at correction.

The much-hyped "Club de Fitness" Guerlain "Health Spa" laboured disgracefully under the same ill-considered approach. No--worse! & frankly, it is a joke. It's just badly run---if 'run' at all.. Nothing good can be said about it. The paucity of luxury personal amenities hinted in the name was only matched by missing footwear for the wet areas, & there being NO TOWELS.
NONE___ANYWHERE!
No water in the chilled dispenser unit, & Surprise! > > NO attendant at the door of the ridiculously named 'Greek-inspired' ( Greek?) swimming pool to enquire if any towels THERE were to be found available ... ( HE was later discovered chatting with a mate out of sight & reach, lounging, back of pool! NOT at his Entry Station)

The absurdly promoted Hamam (it is not & never was, not ever could be) was an abject disgrace---it was devoid of towels ALSO--the eleven wall receptacles meant for same were all empty, All the candleholders empty or burnt out...& the inadequate seating uncomfortable. Naturally. But worst of all was the over-lit steam room with its inoperable water hose..a basic for such a space & an unforgivable lapse in hygiene maintenance.
In all a devastatingly disappointing "Spa" experience. Guerlain by name ONLY. Nothing to do with any French spa worth the name!
FORGET "luxury"!

I should report that in his response to my pointing out these (& other deficiencies not included here in my TA report) the Trianon GM could not bring himself to admit his hotel actually was failing anywhere..indeed he put it all back on us when apologizing that they did not live up to OUR expectations, that "our service (sic) was short of YOUR hope...".
Not that HIS hotel was in ANY way culpable!
Then insultingly we had refunded our double-hamburger lunch & some minor internet charges by way of...well what could it be?
The General Manager's imagined "compensation" I suppose!
Ironic he chose items about which no complaint had been made in order to effect a refund...could this have been because they were he lowest expenses incurred? AHA! But the sting was surely in the tail...he offered to UPGRADE (sic) us to the old building should we ever return. Yep ! they very area we had believed were were in fact to be staying......
I have assured him he need have no fear of that ever happening...we will never be seen on his doorstep again. Nor should you.

Give it a wide miss. The plain fact is : Trianon Palace doesn't deliver what it advertises. Full Stop.

Grand hotel with deluxe accomodations and amenities. Great location and felt very safe in Versailles. Only problem was getting access to transportation as cab service takes awhile to request and the RER train station is a 20 minute walk.

Had a largely pleasant stay here recently, overall I'd say we enjoyed our visit and the location cannot be beaten but when you consider that it is costly to stay here I think it's reasonable to say there are a couple of areas where things can be improved. I'd give the stay 3.5 out of 5 . We stayed in the palace building.

The Hotel Excels in the following areas
- Location - literally seconds away from the gates of Versailles
- Decor, Cleanliness
- Staff are very helpful
- Staff are accomodating, we were allowed check in early even though staff had no obligation to accomodate us in this area.

Areas for Improvement-

- Dining - We were a little disappointed with the food. When you're paying those prices you expect quality and in this case I don't think the prices were quite justified.
- Noise The buliding is old so you can hear what's going on in the room above. The second night of our stay we got to listen to someone stomping/running around the room above for about 4 hours. In fairness, a staffmember did offer to move us but it was late and we felt you'd probably come up against the same problem in any room.
- Tipping, in some areas found the staff could be a bit leechy. I know in some sectors people subsidise their income through tipping but when individuals are blatantly seeking a tip for merely acknowledging their existence it leaves a bit of a sour taste.

Overall a good stay and the location alone makes it the best Hotel in Versailles for exploring the grounds. Make sure you book the Palace building if considering a stay and hopefully some of our suggestions will be taken on board.

Room Tip: Palace Building!!!!

Stayed in this beautiful hotel for 2 nights earlier in April in a party of 5. 2 of the party (sharing a bed) were bitten over 30 times, which took over two weeks to go down.

The lady behind reception said it woud be the mosquitos from the lake, and there should have been something to detract them in the room. We asked her for bite cream and she suggested a visit to the pharmancy- not great when we didnt speak French or know the area, and she didnt bother to give directions. Not convinced it was mosquitos due to the severity of the bites and the fact it affeced people in the same bed- and not the other person in that room.

We were then told some one would email us, they never did and we tried to email the hotel to which we have had no response 3 weeks later.

Perhaps not suprising when the tray from the room service we ordered was still outside the room at 10am the next morning.

A shame as other than being bitten, and the unhelpful staff member, a very enjoyable stay!
