“Disappointing”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

Having been on an excellent Camargue cruise out of St Maries-De-La-Mer a couple of days earlier I was hoping for more of the same. Seeing the "recommended by Tripadvisor" sticker made me think I might have chosen wisely - but not so. The trip starts slowly down the canal that links Aigues-Mortes with Grau-Du-Roi, taking about 45 minutes to do so. Having travelled that strip several times on both bus and train I'd already had a better view of what was on offer. Nothing is really very close - even the flamingoes were further away than you'd see from the bus when it goes to the Ecole in G-D-R. You then turn onto another canal, and not much improves - I even had to prompt the guide when the one wildlife specimen at close range - an egret - was almost missed. The English notes handed out are passable, although they give little warning of the fact the boat will stop and you'll get off to see a "rodeo". Its easy enough to work out what is going to happen, as some tame bulls are herded by a few locals on horseback. One of the bulls even came to the fence to be "petted" after the demonstration.

The trip was longer than advertised - about 2 and three-quarter hours - something to note if you have a train to catch.

“A plain tourist trap”
Reviewed 14 March 2013

This boat excursion can safely be catalogued as a tourist trap.

There are neither scenic landscapes to be seen nor wildlife to be spotted. You are simply floating on a canal amid plain meadows.

There are no interesting anecdotes or observations to be heard. The guide (only in French) merely mentions some boring demographic statistics about the region.

There are no thrills to be experienced either. The boat makes a short stop to attend a demonstration of manade (selection of livestock) by local cowboys but it all looked very fake, a mere gimmick for tourists.

The only possible advice : abstain !

“Okay trip, if you speak French”
Reviewed 17 September 2012

My husband and I went on the boat trip on 17 September 2012. We understand that we are in France, but would have appreciated assistance with understanding both the trip commentary and important safety issues. We noticed some German people had a folder with paperwork and thought that the folder may contain translated information. After attending the Farm visit, when reembarking the boat we noticed the folders on the bar bench and so grabbed a couple, as did other tourists. They did contain information in several languages. The limited information didn't really assist much. We should have been given these folders when we first arrived, not having to find them ourselves. I also query re safety information not being relayed prior to departure, in any language, ie not to stand up on the top deck under low bridges, keep hands in, where the safety equipment is. Apart from disembarking to see the cattle and horse show, not sure what they were doing with the stock, it was just cruising along a waterway, which could have been any waterway.
