“Sensational!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

It is often said that the best meals are enjoyed one block away from the tourist "eat street" and this was definitely the case with Le Particulier - a small restaurant with funky decor run by a delightful young couple who provided excellent service. Seating is available inside and out.
The chef, Alexandre, speaks good English was very helpful in explaining the menu when we faltered over a few words.
Mayla provided friendly and polite service and was more than happy to take photos of us!
The food is modern Mediterranean cuisine, presented with great attention to detail in a variery of platters so every course is a feast for the eyes as well as a gastronomic delight.
We enjoyed the local rose, Gris de Gris, which was a great accompaniment to the meal.
Don't miss this dining experience in the beautiful town of Aigues-Mortes! It deserves to stay at #1 on TripAdvisor!

“Excellent food but a slightly odd experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2014 via mobile

We searched out a place to eat away from the hustle, bustle and fag smoke of the main square and found this gem. The decor, fixtures and fittings are just great. Overlooking the kitchen from the restaurant and seeing/hearing no tantrums from knife wielding maniacs pretending they can cook was reassuring. An air of calm tranquility pervades the place.
It took a little time for us to understand the menu which offers a two or three dish option or a 'let the chef choose' option. What wasn't clear was that all your party has to have the same option. This must make things more simple for the people cooking. Also a bit odd to have to choose your dessert before your starters and mains.
Drinks are a little limited, no tonics, generic brandy and so on BUT this is a restaurant not a bar and I can live with those quirks when eating some of best food I've had for a while. Presentation scores 10/10 as does the taste, from the amuse bouche to the desserts, just great.
Our party of seven had different starters, the foie gras was excellent, as was the gazpacho with its variety of tapas. My wrap of crevettes was delicately delicious.
Likewise the mains, we all enjoyed our choices. One of our party doesn't eat fish of any sort, his requests for a fish-free and foie-gras free starter were accommodated and he was served a very mixed salad with beautifully thin slices of pink lamb.
The desserts were, quite simply, divine.
All in all a memorable and enjoyable experience, 4 star rather than 5 because the odd drinks provision and a slightly unclear menu options but definitely 5 star food, ambience and staff ratings.
Would we go back, yes.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2014

We were inspired by friends' feedback and also Trip Advisor. First of all, this is not a 'Basque' restaurant at all but Contemporary Meditteranean so Trip Advisor needs to rectify that. Secondly if you want to eat quickly, this is not for you as all the dishes are all prepared after you have ordered them so you do have to wait a while for each course - the benefit of course is ultra fresh, seasonal and creative cuisine prepared in full view in a totally 'open' kitchen, where the chef's prestigious and international experience can be tasted in every dish. Coupled with a warm, discreet and friendly welcome, it makes for a wonderful but unpretentious dining experience.

“A modern gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

We went to the beautiful old fort city of Aiques-Mortes 2 days ago. We had no expectations and thought we would avoid the crowded square. The menu of the restaurant appeared very simple and the decor refreshing. They were not busy so we had a beautiful lunch accompanied by a bottle of rose wine. The following evening we returned and were fortunate as they were almost full. We were treated to the epicurean or tasting menu with winces to suit each course. The food was thoughtful and modern without unnecessary additions celebrating the quality and charter of each dish. The outcome is refreshing, wholesome and stunning.
We have had a lot of good food in different regions of /france but this is one of the best dinners in memory.

“Aigues Mortes #1 Restaurant not up to #1....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2014

Our next reservation for a #1 rated restaurant on Trip Advisor, in Provence, was less than a #1 experience. The glowing reviews captured us as usual.....

We were greeted by a the proprietress and her chef husband, & seated in a very
comfortable and modern setting...we were the first to arrive that evening, but
soon after numerous others arrived. The short menu was quite adventurous
and the chic surroundings were shades of grey, pink and black....the grey leather
chairs were very comfortable.

We began with a Mise en Bouche of a miniature cup of White Asparagus tips and well shaved stalks, in a lightly vinegared olive oil dressing, that was quite tasty.

My husband had a starter of a slice Foie Gras on a bed of Sweet Red Cabbage, quite unique for this dish, and he found it to be very good.
My starter course was a Tapas of Shrimp. on a salad with a spoonful of the same
sweet red cabbage, beautifully presented...the shrimp was cut in small chunks with a mild salsa on top of slivers of rustic toast...very good taste, and the shrimp was
quite fresh.

My husband moved on to his main course which was an Asian inspired Wok dish
of Scallops, medallions of monk fish, along with red peppers, zuchinni, tomatoes and herbs....he found it to be very light and tasty, but a bit sparse in the seafood
content.

As for my main course, I ordered the Roti de Veau (Roast Veal) presented on slivers of vegetables, but unfortunately the veal was not roasted, and it was of a very poor cut of the veal.... full of grizzle, fat & tendons, and not tender at all!! It seemed to be a small portion cut off the shoulder of veal and then cooked....very
difficult to cut and eat, and half of the serving was debris I pushed to the side of the plate.

All in all, everything in the beginning was very good, but somehow the main courses slipped in quality and quantity for the price.....the Chef even apologized for the quality of the Veal on my dish, but did not offer a reduction in price for the problem, as they would have in the USA.

Oh well....another disappointing and expensive French experience....on to the next one, which we hope is much better!!
slice off of a shoulder of Veal, and then sauteed
