We had a wonderful dinner and experience at Le Trivalou! After some disappointing experiences at other more "well known" restaurants in Carcassonne, this restaurant turned out to be a highlight of our Carcassonne trip.

This is a fab little find in a small street between the old Cite and the bastide ('new' town). Very small, about 20 covers at most, family run with traditional and modern dishes beautifully presented. Lovely fresh food. The classic Cassoulet was especially scrumptious.
Best to book or else turn up early (just after 7pm) to get the last available tables.

After what I can say was an excellent meal I had to use the toilet. Image my horror when I noticed that the toilet roll had to been placed roll side in. I, however, turned the roll around. The place is now perfect. You can thank me later.

The restaurant consists of the bare essentials - a doorway, a front desk, 6 tables and 20 chairs - it's like being invited to dinner in someone's house. Then the food arrives. Simple, fresh, stylish and tasty, the menu features ideas you hear of but never think you will experience at this price - confit of duck with thyme ice cream, anyone? It seems to be run by two very competent ladies - one front of house, one in the kitchen - and long may they continue. I had 3 courses, coffee and brandy for 30 euros.

We had an amazing and inventive meal with a gourmet foodie friend from London, England who was staying with us for a few days in Carcassonne. We all enjoyed the food so much. The restaurant is tiny, simple and intimate, nothing too fancy… but the food is amazing, excellent value for money. We all would highly recommend Le Trivalou :)
