“Friendly and comfortable”
Reviewed 27 April 2013 via mobile

The owners are really friendly and speak good English. The air-conditioning was nicely mild. (Not all rooms have air-con, though.) The breakfast was better than avarage French. Parking was free for motorbikes. Walking distance to both the city center and the medieval citadel. Quiet street though close to railway.

There could have been more towels and more space for clothes etc.

No view, if that's your thing. Nor a balcony.

Variety of rooms and prices, also without ensuite bathroom.

We stayed at this hotel during a cold spell and were very comfortable. The area does not look very salubrious but is safe and only a short walk to the city centre. The old town is a longer walk away but an interesting one and the Canal du Midi is just around the corner. The room was very clean, comfortable and quiet and the owners extremely helpful with suggestions for restaurants and directions to other places. Would use this hotel again.

For a two-star hotel, you get the basic amenities and can't expect more from the place. What we cared about was that it was clean. Turned out, it was exceptionally clean. The room was neat and basic; the bed was comfortable. The owners were friendly, and can help answer any questions you may have. The location was great because if you want to be near the train station, it's a really close walk. It is also near the main strip for shopping and restaurants, and to walk to the medieval city is really not that far. It's an easy walk. We really thought Hotel Astoria was a good value.

The only con we may have is that we stayed next to the entrance where you get to hear everyone coming and going, but the great thing about Carcassonne is that nothing stays open late, so you don't have people coming and going at really late hours. It didn't bother us at all. And don't worry about the train station being close because it doesn't run late.

We flew to Carcassone, went to the very friendly Hotel Astoria where we had prebooked bicycles via email, changed and left our spare clothes in the hotel, took the train to Toulouse, cycled for 2 days, arriving back at the Astoria for a welcome hot power shower in a cosy clean room, and change of clothes, and culture.. the old Cite is fabulous. The 30 minute walk there takes in the town square and some of the shops (or you can go by bus). We left our bags again the next morning, cycled south to Sete over 3 days, and brought the bikes back by train, returning them to the Astoria, picking up our bags and changing into clean clothes, and heading to the airport. Everything was always ready for us at the Astoria: the bikes were in perfect condition, the bags were waiting in the room when we got back, we could check into the room early, etc Our cycling trip would have been much harder to organise without the help of the Hotel Astoria. The bedroom was clean, the shutters blocked light and noise (although earplugs are probably a good idea in any 2star hotel in France). The breakfast was plentiful and leisurely, and featured local produce, and included protein as well as pastries! There is no restaurant for dinner, but Marc and his wife made nearby recommendations, and generally could not have been more pleasant or helpful; they speak English and Spanish fluently. The Astoria is very well located for the Canal and for the train station.. a very short walk. Even if you don't want to cycle the entire Canal du Midi from Toulouse to the Mediterranean, it is worth renting a bike or walking part of it to admire this engineering feat of the 1660s.

A warm welcome from the English speaking owners. The location - close to the railway station and
canal du midi was ideal. There is a near-by supermarket and restaurants close to the hotel. There is also a secure storage garage for cars, motorcycles and cycles across the road and a rooms annex next to the main hotel. The bedrooms are clean, bright and colourful with en-suite, although
the shower area is on the small side. Lots of local information at hand at the reception area and the hard working owners also have good knowledge; they were very helpful. It's a comfortable 15 minute walk to the castle area through the Ville Basse town part of Carcassonne.
Overall, it is an excellent choice for a short stay.

The room smelled clean and new (some might say, disinfected?) and was bright and cheery enough. Wifi was strong, the shower had lots of hot water and terrific water pressure. There's a nice little Italian restaurant around the corner that opens even on Sunday nights, called L'Italian. Easy to walk to the Ville Bastide and train station. It's possible to walk to the Medieval City from the hotel as well, but be prepared for an uphill climb! (Better to walk back)

This hotel is easy walking distance from the station even with trolley bags. The owners speak fluent English and are very helpful. It's on the opposite side of town from the castle, but we really enjoyed walking through town visiting the market, the town square etc. on the way. It's a small hotel so the rooms are themselves small, but well equipped and spotless - good showers! I guess you get the odd train noise during the night, but with double glazing and steel shutters you would have to be a very light sleeper to be bothered. Berakfast is all from local ingredients - artisan bread, cheeses etc. Nothing fancy but fresh and nice.

Room Tip: There are rooms in the main building (no lift by the way) or in a separate section across the road i...
