“3 stars are too much”
Reviewed 21 October 2010

with the exception of front desk staff is friendly and helpful, little more is recommended. the pool is tiny, barely enough for swimming. the apartments are so basic that they become uncomfortable. limiting hours of reception is pretty nasty. is something far from downtown but not so far from the medieval city. breakfast is not bad, but is also very basic and with a juice undrinkable. we can not find the 3 star anywhere. the apartments are not cleaned or groomed daily. is not a good choice for one or two days.

Stayed here for two nights last weekend. The reception times are clearly posted on their website and are reasonble. It was very inexpensive to book this apartment for two nights for 4 people and it was clean and spacious, although it did lack a bit of natural light. The pool and sauna were free and the location to the cité was excellent. The staff were very helpful and accomadating

In response to "lies, lies, lies" posted by EmigAus, I wouldn't normally comment on other posts but but you have posted a very unfair and inconsistent review. Firstly you don't reference who lied or what you were lied to about. You didnt book direct so you were relying on the 3rd party information about the rooms (we were 4 people and booked a 3 room as we new that included the lounge/kitchen), this is your own fault for not properly researching. How many hotels do you know have more than one signpost? To your own admission you were using Sat Nav, are you telling me that armed with an address and a global satellite navigation system accurate to the nearest 10cm you could not find this hotel? That really is special.

I have also noticed a lot of posts on here saying how great the place over the road is (eh hum) and it is twice the price. If you are on a budget there is nothing wrong with this place at all.

A collection of buildings containing apartments, which, although sold as a hotel, is defined (on notices at the back of the apartment door) as having the status of some kind of 'residence', which excludes them from having the same responsibilities as a hotel proper. Also, there is cleaning paraphernalia, such as brooms, mops etc. and visitors are asked to clean the room, fridge etc. strip the beds & leave all towels and bedding in a specific place before vacating (otherwise a penalty is payable (about 45 Euros from memory)). On arrival, we were allocated room 169 (with balcony) on the 1st floor of the 'Minervois' building. It looked directly out onto the reception (restricted opening times 1200 - 1600hrs). A main arterial road passes behind both buildings less than 18 mtrs away . The road was constantly busy, unbearable even with all shutters/windows & curtains closed, with heavy juggernauts and light/ medium traffic from 0500 to 0000hrs (but it then quietened down). The tremor caused by larger vehicles could be felt as they passed. Ah well, you might say, at least we can sleep from 0000 to 0500hrs - but, as many reviewers have written, not on beds with mattresses like bricks!! If the hotel's Minervois building's proximity to the traffic is a 'hard place' to be and the bed like 'a rock', you'll get the drift about sleeping options. We found the reception staff to be largely ok but reluctant to break off and engage when they were chatting on the phone - unfortunately a recurring theme. We didn't want the hassle of re-packing, cleaning the apartment & moving to another building across the car park but after two nights, we were so shattered, we requested a move. After some rude comments/questions from reception, we were given a room, without balcony, at the side of another building directly overlooking another road which had occasional traffic on it (but the traffic from the main road could distinctly be heard (but at a significantly reduced volume)). We booked with GTA and selected their online option to upgrade to a 'buffet' breakfast and paid the enhanced daily rate. However, in reality, there is only one type of breakfast served and the extra money paid for the upgrade was of no interest to the reception staff who advised we take it up with GTA - wonder how GTA were under the impression that an upgrade could be charged for when it patently does not exist? Be warned, there is only ONE breakfast served here, but, to be fair, it's fairly consistent with the 'better' category of continental breakfast. All in all, apart from the things mentioned, the 'hotel' has lifts, a clean chlorinated pool & complex is secure with electric gates closing in the evening (code given). For size & amenities, the first room allocated was the best with most room space & (traffic noise aside) the advantage of having a balcony. The second apartment/room we transferred to was adequate for two - but nothing special. On the TV, don't expect to see other than the news in German or English as the films/entertainment were solely restricted to French channels (with no sub titles). As a positive, from both rooms we had a glimpse of the uppermost part of the Cite' rooftops and the walk from Residhotel was only a pleasant 5 minutes or so to the Cite itself. A final warning to asthma sufferers (such as myself), or those with allergies, I asked at reception and they verified that pets are permitted in ALL apartments. Distinctly on a negative, I had to use my inhaler at least once every day (once every couple of months or so in Sweden or the UK). But, again, on a positive, great if you need to take your pet on holiday with you!

Booked through booking.com an "appartment with two rooms (sleeps 4)" (we were three people). The second bedroom turned out to be the living room, where the couch could be turned into two beds. These were not comfortable, apart from the noise from the fridge all through the night. Bathroom did not have a shower curtain, so it was impossible not to flood the floor while showering. Our apartment was on the ground floor and the corridors had a strong smell of chlorine from the swimming pool.
Singposting for this hotel is abysmal.
When driving into Carcassonne, the only sign for this hotel is on a screen with three or four other advertisments. If its sign is not displayed as you drive up to it, you will miss it. Our navigation system told us to turn left, which we did; but we could not find any signs of this hotel. The neighbouring hotel is absolutely fed up with redirecting guests. When we came out of this other friendly hotel, we discovered a sign the size of half a page on the fence of the hotel...

This has got to be one of the weirdest hotels I've ever stayed in and the rock hard sofa bed effort compete with railings offered the most uncomfortable night I've ever had. We did not sleep at all. There wasn't even a duvet just a sheet and the thinnest of fleeces and one flat pillow each The room was enormous, with no attempt to make it welcoming. We lay there shivering looking at the vast expanse of white walls and kitchenette! There was no one on site to get any more blankets from. The room felt like a cross between a morgue and an industrial unit with giant roll down shutters. The bathroom was equally weird. Enormous with a seat under the shower. The only place to hang towels was under the shower!!!!On the up side - it was very clean, cheap and close to the Cite but at the expense of any sleep at all therefore defeating the object. Probably would have had a more comfortable night in the car. What a shame. Theres loads of space and it could be lovely but just too weird for us.

Stayed here for 4 nights on a short break courtesy of a cheap flight with Ryanair. Arrived at the hotel at 10.30am expecting to be able to leave our bags and check in later. The charming receptionist advised us that she had one room ready and we could book in immediately.
Our room was a 1 bed apartment with a well fitted out kitchen area and a large decked balcony. The rooms were very clean and well presented. I do not agree with another contributor who states the rooms are as clean as previous guests have left them. You are asked to leave the room as you find it, wash any dishes and put out your rubbish. However, the rooms are then cleaned by a maid before being relet. I have rented apartment hotels in various locations and this is standard practice. If you want hot and cold running maid service then book into a conventional hotel!
Trust me, the beds are firm but comfortable- slept for 10 hours the first night and had a siesta most afternoons.
The breakfast which was included in the price was basic continental; bread, cheese, cold meat, croissants, cereals and yoghurt.
The hotel is a 5-10 minute walk from the old city (depending how quickly you walk) and it takes about 20-25 minutes to walk into the modern city of Carcassonne. We did not use any public transport except when we came to and from the airport.
I have no hesitation in recommending this apartment hotel and thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
All the staff we met were very welcoming, helpful and made this short break a most relaxing experience

The location of this hotel is great. However we had many problems with the fact that the reception is hardly ever open. We couldn't find out how to check in for ages (you have to phone up and follow instructions to find the keys), then our bags got locked in reception as it isn't open most of the day. Then we were told we had to clean the room ourselves or pay extra! Not really what I'm used to in a hotel - more like an appartment service.
