We stopped in the pavement area for just a shared pizza and two wines, before embarking on a boat trip. The menu prices were good - and the pizza was ace (quite enough for two people who normally eat only small lunches - hence the share). All had been very pleasant, very friendly. We were wondering about coming back for a bigger meal later, with others.
Imagine our disbelief when the bill came, upon which had suddenly appeared a COVER CHARGE of 4 Euros (yes, 4 - the pizza and wine came to less than 20)!! I was totally baffled by the shorthand scribble, and it was told what it was. I showed my dissatisfaction and was shown a hand scribble note that was inside, obscured by a row of bottles. I had not the time nor the inclination to read it, but emphasised that there had been NO indication OUTSIDE that they would apply a "cover charge". Mr Angry then scribbled out the charge, and told me that if we returned tomorrow we could have a meal with no charge added.
I enquired of several other places that we went to over the following days, and got the impression that a "cover charge" is unheard of these days. So, do be a little careful at this highly rated eatery - who knows, it may be that we were punished for not having a pizza apiece?
Great food - questionable customer-concern. Check if there's a "cover charge" before ordering a light bite.
