“Classic French cooking and romantic setting”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

Located in a centuries old mill, this restaurant couldn't be more charming. Surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, it would make sense to be early and wander the grounds before dinner. The menu was classic French. From the asparagus creamy soup amuse bouche to the fresh sauteed foie gras to the fish and lamb to the home made sorbets, we could not have been happier with our meal. The tab came to 50 euro per person, a bargain.

“Excellent. Not to be missed!”
Reviewed 29 September 2013 via mobile

Don't be like me, and narrow your choices to those restaurants with the Cité, or its close environs. The outlying villages (2-10k) harbour some gems, and this is one of them!

It is well-recommended in the Michelin Guide, and often these are better than many of the starred restaurants. The Chateau Saint Martin certainly ranks with many 1* I have experienced, in the ambiance, decor, service, the choice of wine, and - most of all - superb cooking.

We attended for a Sunday lunch in late September, having learnt of the restaurant and booked the previous day. We were welcomed, shown to a table (choice of inside, or out) and then given menu with a range of choices. We chose the €60 menu, and are glad we did. From the amusé bouche to coffee, each course was superb, well-timed. The wine list has a range of well-priced 37.5cl bottles of some vintage, meaning we could complement the meal with white and red wines.

The restaurant was probably two thirds full during our visit, and service was excellent.

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!

“what a find”
Reviewed 26 September 2013

This was next to our hotel (Hotel Bastide St. Martin) which was actually located in a neighborhood subdivision minutes from Carcassone. The walk was through a peaceful beautiful garden. Reservations are required and this night it appeared all dined on the back patio. This was elegant food, perfectly prepared with the usual 3 course dinner. The wine was local and the best we had in France. I had filet mignon medallions and my wife had the casserole. The desserts were superb. The whole meal paced for romance and the walk back to the hotel at dark was a perfect ending. This place is hard to find even with GPS but worth the adventure

“Another Wonderful Lunch”
Reviewed 16 July 2013

We try to visit whenever we are in the area. Our lunch experience has always been exceptional. Great food, great local wines, attentive service and the outdoor setting is wonderful. As we said in a previous review
