“Excellent dinner in pleasant surroundings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014 via mobile

This restaurant was recommended by friends of ours who travel to France regularly. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is charming and service good. We ordered the 40€ six-course menu. It was a lot of food without being overwhelming and a nice combination of fish and meat. Dinner started off with a small taste served on a spoon (not part of the six courses).

The weather was cold so we could not sit in the courtyard but the dining room is broken into small rooms so was quite cozy.

The wine list was quite reasonable, with many wines from the surrounding appellations. We chose a nice St. Chinian for around 20€.

It is wise to locate this restaurant in advance since it is a little obscure and, as much as you can be in the old city of Carcassone, off the beaten track.

We would happily eat here again.

“Good restaurant, excellent food, reasonable price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local shop owner, It was an excellent choice, The restaurant offers a good selection of French food. Be just careful not to order too many courses, if you are not completely straved, since food is served plentifully.

“Another great option”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2013

In such a touristy destination, we were surprised to find so many restaurants that offered good food at reasonable prices - as long as you stick with their daily menu. We ate here on our second night in Carcassonne and were very pleased with the food and service. The daily menu was just under 20 euros and offered a great value. As other reviewers have mentioned, we were the only English speakers in the restaurant, and had a little bit of difficulty with the language, but nothing major.

“Poor, from start to finish”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013 via mobile

This restaurant was recommended to myself and my wife in the hotel we were staying in.
We ordered the 6 course menu. From the start it disappointed.
We had to ask for water 3 times, our wine arrived down to our table while we were on our second course.
Service was poor, with frequent mistakes.
All that may have been forgiven had the food been great, but alas it was not. It looked very good and was presented well, but was tasteless.
In fact the only positive comment I can give is the wine was good,...but then again, they didn't make it!

My wife summed it up when she said "are we finished yet? i hope here isn't another course, I just want to leave".....enough said.

“Highly recommended. Good quality away from the crowds.”

This was on our shortlist having researched restaurants in the medieval City on TA in advance of our trip. It's tucked away down a tiny side street so takes a bit of finding, but is well worth it.

We stayed for a couple of nights in the medieval city. It's quite difficult differentiating between restaurants in La Cite and those in the newer city down the hill. Suggestion to TA - could you rearrange your Carcassonne reviews to distinguish between the two locations? I am sure that would be very helpful to potential visitors.

We'd looked at the 'prix fixee' menus at a few restaurants and they are quite similar. It tends to be combinations of cassoulet, duck, and steak. This restaurant offered a really good priced menu at just €19.50, and we were taken by the lively atmosphere.

The salad starter was plentiful and very tasty. For mains, I had the cassoulet (...when in Rome...!) and it was very good indeed. My wife had a good steak. The deserts were also very good. We just had the house red wine and this was very drinkable and great value.

The service was adequately attentive, despite the restaurant being busy. I think that they cater more for French speakers - certainly the clientele seemed to be mainly French nationals, which I took to be a good sign.

We were impressed with the succession of dishes being served to the couple next to us. They had ordered the €40 'Menu des Lices' comprising 7 courses. If we were eating there again, we would go for the €29 'Petit des Lices' menu, which is the same as the €40 menu, just with smaller portions (which the other couple really wished they'd gone for!).

We had a really lovely evening at this restaurant and would recommend it highly. Great place to sample the local cassoulet speciality.
