The hotel is inside the walls and it's near all the main attractions. It has a beautiful garden with the most beautiful view and a small, but very pleasant, swimming poll. The staff was always vey polite. The restaurant is also very good.

While the location is prime, don't think you are going to stay at a 5 star hotel; it seems like they cut corners whenever possible. For example, what fine hotel has instant coffee in the room (none we have ever stayed at, at least not until now). Hardware came right off of the wall in two places, and you can hear everyone talking in the hallway. But the most telling fault is that they turned off the heat in May; the room was cold! They offered to bring in a space heater - clearly not expected in a 5 star hotel!

We stayed here since this is the finest (and most expensive) hotel in the city. It certainly has the "bones" to excel, but they clearly miss the mark.

Room Tip: A garden view also overlooks the city

I booked online and paid £400 up front for a booking in July. The day after I realised I had booked the wrong date! I wanted to change day to next day and even pay more if there was only a higher grade room available.

The management will not change the day and have kept my £400. Surely this is not right!!!!!

So, would have very much liked to have reviewed this place post our stay but sadly can only give and opinion pre stay on our experience of the management and how we have been treated.

Wonderful hotel in spectacular surroundings! Helpful front desk staff, and the morning breakfast was such a wonderful start to the day to bask in the ambiance and nibble on all the buffet offerings. Quiet rooms here, for the walls are castle-thick!

This was one of the best hotels I have stayed in, could not fault in anyway. Not cheap but money well spent. Had dinner in the restaurant which was very good value. The bar is not cheap but on a scale with other high class hotels, 1 wine and 1 beer E15 not fifty pounds, I checked prices they must have had doubles!

I have so many great things to say about our 3 night stay at Hotel de la Cite:

Service - My boyfriend and I took the train in to Carcassonne from Paris, and took a taxi to the hotel from the train station. Since the hotel is within the old city walls, only certain vehicles are allowed to drive there, and taxis are not one of them. Our driver knew this, so he phoned the hotel during our drive, to have them waiting at the Cite entrance with a car to take us up. That already made me feel pampered, and we hadn't even gotten to the hotel yet!

The check-in process was very quick, and the front desk staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. They made dinner reservations for us right away, and explained all the available amenities, then showed us to our room.

The Room - Fantastic! A very spacious room with a terrace and an amazing view of the ramparts and the whole city. At night, it was stunning to see everything lit up. The decor felt like it was inspired by Medieval times, which was kind of cool.

Breakfast - Our room included a free breakfast every morning in the restaurant - it was probably the best hotel buffet I've ever been to. All of the juices were made locally, and the selection of food was excellent (and extremely delicious!).

Location - We loved staying within the ramparts. Not only was it incredibly cool with an amazing view, but it was very convenient. The Cite gets crowded during the day with tourists, but we were out during the day exploring the region. By the time we got back in the evening, things were quiet again, and we enjoyed strolling around window shopping and checking out all of the restaurants. There was actually a surprising amount of restaurants within the Cite walls, with many choices of food.

It was a short walk into the center of Carcassonne, which was a very charming town. Overall, I'd recommend a stay here if you're visiting the area.
