The building was put up in 1909, in the style of the House of Lords or St Pancras station in London, i.e. OTT fake Gothic - but very charming, and a good fit for the citadel of Carcassonne, with its mixture of medieval and later reconstruction. We upgraded to a suite, which was ridiculously beautiful, at the top of a tower. We had staggering views from 3 sides (turrets and misty countryside, think medieval romances or tapestries), together with a glorious bathroom, pleasant sitting room, and a bedroom with the biggest bed I think I've ever seen (my partner said that a trip over to my side of the bed felt like crossing the International Date Line). Breakfast was very good and varied.
The hotel was a great base for exploring Occitania, and I recommend it unreservedly (or at least Suite 301 unless I get there first).

Dear Rachel,

Thank you for the great review of our hotel! We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again very soon.

You are right, the first owner of the property in 1909 did his apprenticeship in London and he wanted to build a hotel with a British style.

Sincerely,

JPB

We stayed only one night as a treat. The hotel is beautiful and we slept well. We were happy that we could open the window overnight. Sadly the service was a bit sloppy, our room wasn't ready when we arrived and our phone number was taken so they could call us. No call ever came so after a couple of hours we wandered back and were told that it had been ready for over an hour. Also service in the garden area could be better. Had to search for someone to get a drink, the no one came back to ask if we wanted another.

Only stayed for a day, but loved this historic hotel, which was formerly the bishops palace. Lovely dining room and nice sleeping rooms, though you can get a little lost en route to your room. Good nights sleep - beds are Overall very nice service in an amazing setting!

Dear Patricia

We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Hôtel de la Cité Carcassonne - MGallery By Sofitel.

You are right the hotel is like a castle. It is part of the experience to get lost in the hotel and to discover its little secret. Next to room 118, we have a modern art piece which I recommend you to see on your next stay.

Thank you for your kind feedback, and we hope to see you again soon for another magnifique journey with us.
Regards,
JPB

The location is spectacular and our room was comfortable and clean. However I felt the service was only okay. For example the weather was beautiful in the afternoon we sat outside in the lovely garden to read and not once during 3 hours did someone ask us if we wanted anything. For sure we would have had a drink. We checked into our room our bags were brought up and there was no showing us around the features of our room despite a nice tip!

While there was do much good about the hotel, it just missed the 5 *s I would have expected.

Dear Catherine G,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short.

The park of the hotel is one of the best asset of the hotel and I truly feel embarrassed my staff did not propose you a drink.

If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of.

Sincerely,

JPB

To celebrate my husband's 60th birthday 13 friends stayed in this magnificent hotel in the medieval citadel of Carcassonne. The chef prepared a sumptuous dinner for us with wine matched by the sommelier. We were seated at a beautiful large table in the restaurant, overlooking the citadel and the service was outstanding. I cannot thank the chef and staff enough for making this such a special night.
Our room was spacious and quiet, overlooking the entrance to the Cathedral. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in. Our stay was too short!
