The hotel was right on the doorstep of the medieval city. The parking was free and plentiful with a second car park close by. We chose not to eat in the hotel although the menu was as to be expected within the region. WIFI and computer access were also free of charge. The staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

We were with a travel group (Trafalgar), so this hotel was booked for us. We walked to the old town (very convenient) and the included dinner was very nice. The best part was sitting in the lovely courtyard in the evening. The room was small, but adequate for us. We were only there one night. If we had a longer stay, I would have preferred a larger room.

Room Tip: Our room was on the first floor in the back, so we were able to walk to the courtyard because we had a large windowed door that opened to the back.

6 of us have recently returned from a 4 night break at this hotel. Having read the reviews I was a bit concerned about room size but there was no need. We had all been allocated large rooms with room for a sofa and chair and plenty of space. The room my wife and I had was particularly good in that it was at the end of the hotel and had a double aspect that looked over to the beautiful ramparts. We found the staff helpful on the whole. The position is geat just a short walk from the medieval city. Our only issue was that the heating in the room did not work and it had by this time started to turn chilly. We reported this - we were offered a room change which we were not keen to do as it was such a lovely room and so we stayed where we were and were brought a stand-alone heater which did the trick. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for larger rooms

I booked with a little trepidation after some of the reviews - but wanted to be close to the city as we only had 2 days. We liked it - was equal to other Mercure hotels we have stayed in before. It has everything you need for a weekend break - plenty of parking (free), a good double room -ours was quite small but we have found rooms in French hotels usually are on the small side. Room was quite newly decorated - contemporary - great walk in shower and modern bathroom - although the bright purple bathroom walls were a bit eye popping! Bed was comfy enough and room was quiet.
Breakfast buffet was a real bonus - included in the price too. Extensive range of pastries, cereals, fruit and hot items. However for us the real benefit was the location - just 3 minutes walk to the medieval city so we could enjoy restaurants there and the lovely maze of little streets in the evenings when the coach groups had all gone - amazing!!
We are quite picky about hotels - our only complaint was that the wifi was a bit erratic. We would definitely recommend as a great location for a weekend in stunning Carcassonne.

Hotel rooms are rather tired. Standard rooms very compact so we paid extra for a superior room.
Wifi connection was excellent.
Dinner in the restaurant was excellent.
Restaurant manager runs a tight ship and as a result great service.
Great location for the old city. we felt it better to be located outside, only a short walk away from the hotel.

Room Tip: Pay more for a bigger room as standard very compact.
