You can park for free in a gated lot and walk to the old city just up the street. I could see the fortress from my room's window. Being close by the old city is so worth it. We walked back and forth three times in 24 hours. Mercure is a good quality brand.

We liked this hotel a lot thanks to its brilliant location next to the cité and our free upgrade to a superior room. The superior room afforded us an excellent night's sleep. We were less happy with breakfast at €14 per person and the chaotic arrangements where there are too many people fighting for too few places.

Good location near city walls.Service in the bar for pre-dinner drinks was poor we had to ask for the table to be cleared of dirty glasses. Food in restaurant was quite good, service a little chaotic,to many untrained staff.

Pleasant clean hotel in excellent quiet location a couple of minutes walk from the old city walls. Common areas attractive, lovely pool but unheated and far too cold to swim in at the beginning of June which was a disappointment. Bedroom small but comfy bed, view over fields and very good bathroom. Staff variable - some very friendly and helpful - others not so much. Food mostly pretty good especially breakfast, but my husband suffered from a bad stomach after a dinner in the hotel - can only assume it was this as we had eaten and drunk exactly the same apart from that.

Enjoyed short 3 night break starting 1st June 2013 in this pleasant hotel in a great location just outside the medieval city walls. Speedy check in by courteous and friendly receptionist. Second floor room was comfortable with a nice clean bathroom and great shower, tea and coffee making facilities and complimentary bottled water. Room looked out over open fields and was very quiet. Enjoyed evening meals on Saturday and Sunday in the hotel, These were really high quality, reasonably priced and enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere. Would recommend the set menu and also the steak meal for 2 persons, cooked just as we liked it! Also had buffet breakfast, which was plentiful and always fresh. We did not use the pool/terrace area as it was very windy for the first few days, but this looked very nice and think it would be lovely in the warm sunshine, overlooked by the city walls and surrounded by gardens. The medieval city is about 5 mins stroll from the hotel, so easy to return for a quick break. All members of staff were very courteous and helpful. Would have no problem recommending this hotel, and hope to return to Carcassonne in the future.
When we arrive at the Airport in Carcassonne, we used the dedicated airport transfer bus, which is just outside arrivals. It was 5Euros each and drops off at 4 places, the last being the medieval city. It took about 20+ mins and stopped only a short walk from the hotel. However, we decided to have a taxi back to the airport on departure, as this seemed more practical and took 12 mins - it cost 17Euros for 2 persons plus luggage.

Room Tip: Had 2nd floor room overlooking open fields. Very quiet, never distubed by any noise.

Recently spent two nights at Porte de la Cité, which is a five-minute walk to the Porte Narbonnaise, the main pedestrian entrance to the old walled city. The hotel itself is on a quiet side street with lots of free parking. The staff were not particularly friendly, but did their job well in a business-like manner. We paid extra for a Chambre Privilege, which we got for a good price by reserving on the Internet and paying upfront. Totally worth it, as our room was very large with a king-sized bed, plus a sofa, and french doors looking out on the garden, pool, and ramparts of Carcassonne. Breakfast was excellent, although somewhat crowded and noisy on the weekend. Monday morning was quieter. We had dinner in the restaurant one night and were disappointed. Quality of the cuisine was not in line with the price, and the choices were quite limited. We dined in town the following night with much better luck. The location and amenities of this hotel make it an excellent choice for a stay in Carcassonne.

Room Tip: If you want space and a view, go for a Chambre Privilege.

The Mercure has a great location just opposite the entrance to the beautiful walled city of Carcassonne. Our room was quite small but comfortable, bathroom very nice and clean. We did not use any other facility as we dined out on the city and had the hotel's coffee and tea in the room for breakfast, very nice feature to have a kettle in the room. is not standard in France! The swimming pool was still closed as we travelled early in May and it was still too cold. It did not look too inviting, but surely will be if it's 30 degrees outside! The hotel's position is a bit strange, tucked in between the modern city and the large parking lot for the city, but so close to the city that it's worthwhile to stay there. Free and safe parking in front or in the back of the hotel are useful.

Room Tip: Even numbered rooms have a bit of view of the walled city!
