We arrived by car in the afternoon mid September . Arrangements had been made for private parking .
Following the directions for parking we came to a very large car park , an attendant checked off our name on the list and directed us to the first available spot . Your bags may be left in the vehicle .At this point you may leave your keys with the attendant. We chose to check in and hand them to the hotel clerk .
You then walk through the gates to your hotel location . The tourist information centre is located to the right of the gates as we entered . We decided to stop , pick up a map and find out how much would be achievable in our limited time in Carcassonne .
After checking in someone will retrieve your bags and deposit them in your room and your car will then be taken to a secure lot .
The building we stayed in was Best Western Le Donjon . English was spoken at the desk and they were very efficient and helpful . The reception areas lovely . The hotel rooms are old naturally but well appointed . The bathroom was quite spacious . Breakfast had a more than adequate number of choices .
We arrived from San Sebastián Spain . Our final destination is Italy a total distance of 1174 km. In order to achieve this goal comfortably it was necessary to plan 2 one nights stopovers something I do not normally like to do. It was decided our first would be Carcassonne a city I had viewed from the distance many years before while on another driving trip through France and had longed to visit one day. It was well worth visiting and thanks to the tourist office and the helpful front desk I think we managed to see all the recommended sights.

I have always loved history, and this hotel gives you the ability to feel transported in time to a totally different way of life. The hotel is a wonderful combination of historic authenticity on the exterior and totally modern and fresh in our room. The only negative for me was that the hair dryer had an extremely short cord, and I was not able to stand in front of the mirror while blowing out my hair.

Room Tip: If you prefer quiet, ask for a room away from the street.

We stayed in this hotel for five nights and found it very comfortable. The staff were professional and friendly and the city was fabulous, if a bit busy. There is a small new wine bar right by the hotel entrance and it was very relaxing to sit quietly with an excellent glass of wine and 'people watch.' We drove there and a member of stuff met us in the car park and drove us and our luggage to the hotel. We ate in the hotel restaurant one evening and the food and service were both excellent. The surrounding area is beautiful and we enjoyed travelling around and returning to the city in the evening when it was quieter and cooler. A lovely stay!

Overall had a great stay here. There is something special about staying within the walls of the medieval city. The hotel was very good value compared to others within the walls. The rooms were quite old but adequate. Staying within the city walls was a special experience. Happy to recommend this hotel.

The city of Carcassonne is fabulous - particularly at night when the crowds leave.
To stay at a hotel inside the city ramparts, you need to park in a special car park outside the walls and have your luggage taken inside by your hotel staff - make sure you check this before you arrive in this busy place. This means there is some delay in receiving your luggage if you arrive at the same time as a coach party as we did.
We did not get a room in the hotel itself but in the Maison des Remparts. Our room was very small and rather cramped for the two of us with our suitcases, but perfectly comfortable.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful but busy with coach parties staying.
The city restaurants are very busy in the day with crowds of tourists - I can highly recommend the Table de la Reine - voted 4th best pizza in the world - it was certainly the best I have ever eaten. And the desserts were really special too.

Room Tip: Probably the main hotel rather than the Maison des Remparts where the rooms were very small.
