“'Wonderful Holiday venue'”
Reviewed 14 October 2015 for a stay in August 2015

The property itself was as described and perfectly adequate for us as a mature couple who simply wanted a place to self cater and to be able to walk into the surrounding area. The instructions provided were very accurate to guide us to the property, and do not be put off by what appears to be a private road. Do not be afraid of the dogs in the neighbouring property who bark as you walk by, but they seem to be harmless. The property is in easy walking distance of the Medieval City and other areas of interest too. We parked the car at the start of the week and didn't use it for the time we were there.

“Quiet gîte between the centre of Carcassonne and the citadel”
Reviewed 6 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

The really strong point of this gîte is its location in the Quartier de L'ile, between the centre of Carcassonne (20 minutes walk) and the citadel, La Cité (10 minutes walk). L'ile is a mixture of parkland and cultivated plots around the small number of houses located on this quiet, secluded island in the River Aude.

With private parking, the gîte is an ideal base for exploring the wonderful Pays Cathare - full of abbeys, castles and medieval villages set amidst vineyards in beautiful countryside between the Pyrenees and the Montagne Noire. We found it was easy to get wherever we wanted without having to drive through Carcassonne itself, which can get congested at busy times.

For basic daily needs, there is a surprisingly wide variety of decent local shops within easy walking distance, an excellent pharmacy, and local bars, cafes and restaurants. There are also LeClerc and Carrefour hypermarkets 10 minutes drive away at the ZI Pont Rouge, and a Geant closer to hand - which we never visited. On Saturday morning, there is a wonderful market selling fresh local produce in Place Carnot - just follow the crowds.

The gîte itself is located on the ground floor of the owners' house, with its own entrance at the side by the small patio. The bathroom is fully modern, as is the kitchen area within the spacious main room: with a good oven and induction hob, microwave, and fridge with a good freezer compartment, but no washing machine or dishwasher. The bathroom and bedroom are located at opposite ends of the main living room and separate from it. We found the bed was very comfortable.

While we were staying, Julianne was away, and so was unable to help when we ran into problems with the TV/DVD system. However, with good broadband and our trusty laptop we had radio via the internet and could watch DVDs. Julianne thoughtfully provides some books and DVDs for her guests, so we only missed out on the delights of French TV.

The very helpful tourist office in the town centre provided lots of excellent information on places to visit, with useful price reductions if you buy their passport. Thanks to our hire car, we were able to visit quite a few of them, and also to explore the beautiful countryside. We took the guided tour of La Cité. It is crammed full of restaurants - take your pick.

We really loved the area, loved Carcassonne, and hope to return soon.

“Warm welcome, value for money”
Reviewed 18 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Julianne our host was lovely and welcoming.
The gite is as it states on the website, basic clean value for money, but it has everything you would need.
Julianne gave us lots of info about the area, places to see etc, bicyles are there if you want to take a cycle along canal de midi.

Walking back every night great views of the city ln all its glory,

Julianne even brought our cases to the train station later in the day
so we could see more of Toulouse without them on our last day.

“Fabulous place - must go back!!”
Reviewed 11 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

This is the place for a peaceful, comfortable stay whilst only being a 10 minute walk from the amazing La Cite or the main town. Gite has everything you need including bikes and the fresh food (& wine) was a great welcome on arrival. Julieann was great, helpful but not intrusive.
Carcassonne is amazing, beautiful, sunny and there is so much to see and do that 5 days just wasn't enough. Lots of cafes, restaurants and bars and the local Cassoulet should not be missed.
We had a great holiday and will certainly be back!!

“Great location for visiting La Cite, the medieval walled city.”
Reviewed 22 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Basic but spacious accommodation in a quiet location ten minutes walk from the base of the walled city. While described as basic everything you need for a week or more is provided with the exception of a washing machine. Generous and obliging host. Bikes available for guests use. A bike ride along the Canal du Midi is a must.

“Exactly what we needed!”
Reviewed 24 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

After a major flight delay, arriving at the gite we found exactly what we needed for the perfect holiday. Julianne was a fantastic host, so easy to talk to - we were made to feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The gite was perfect for just the two of us and the location is so idyllic with a view to La Cite from the moment you step outside. We did absolutely nothing other than relax the entire holiday - was very sad to come back home!

“Friendly, and close to Carcassonne Cité”
Reviewed 28 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Setting up the arrangement via email went well.

On arrival there was a much appreciated welcome pack - wine, bread, cheese and jam.

This is a small place, intended for a couple. There is a kitchen-living room, a bedroom and a bathroom. Outside there is a terrace overlooking a field. This is a great spot for BBQs and sitting out taking a glass of cold beer or wine. The bathroom is modern, with a shower that is easy to use. In the living room it is possible to put people up on the double bed settee - though there are no curtains over the windows - so early morning light may be an issue for some. The kitchen has a modern cooker with an induction hob. Mostly we used the BBQ in the garden.

Being very far south in France it does get very hot in summer. There are two fans. The one in the living room is powerful and copes well with both the heat and the size of the room. There is a smaller, quieter fan in the bedroom.

The best bit is the location. It is possible to walk to the heart of the medieval Cité in about 15-20 minutes. Here there are many bars and tourist shops. On first impression it may seem too "touristy". Get used to it and familiarity will mean you can find your way around easily, and know where the quiet areas are.

The proprietor was very friendly and helpful, but not intrusive - a good balance.

Liked best: Location - great for local walks and driving to other areas.
Liked least: bed - it creaked and would benefit from a new mattress. Though I have slept on a lot worse.
