“Nice place, nice situation”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

POSITIVE:
The people at the reception were always very kind and helpful.
The situation of the hotel is perfect.
Free wifi in your room.

NOT SO POSITIVE:
Our toilet didn't smell nice, we guessed it was the pipes (the hotel is 99 years old!) because it was indeed clean and it just smelled in the afternoon.
The hotel entrance is very nice but the door is quite heavy and there's a big step just in front of it and some 2 or 3 additional steps before you reach the reception.
The breakfast was ok but could have been better. There were no big spoons, so you had to eat your cereals with a small spoon, for instance. It was rare that you already found a serviette on your table, you had to go and pick one yourself.
The spa zone was a little poor, with just 2 nice deck chairs and the rest being normal chairs. The swimming pool was ok, but the jacuzzi was too small (and a little too cold). And then you had nothing else there! Except for a sauna, which you had to pay additionally.

But these are mostly small details. I definitely got a good general impression and I would recommend the hotel anyway.

Stayed here for 3 nights....yes a little dated but room was adequate for a base....good comfy bed,hot water, clean towels every day and helpful staff.
Good Bistro next door and cafe on the corner does simple cheap breakfast.
Stay here if you just need a place to rest your head and get clean...otherwise spend more money and choose a more upmarket modern place...price we paid was just right for this hotel.
Lovely entrance hall with great features throughout...our room had beautiful light fittings and 4 floor to ceiling doors which were stunning...
Give it a go....

Terrible welcome, booking was made specifically for availability of parking for our expensive motorcycles, yet they initially refused - inability to listen!
They even insisted on payment before even seeing the rooms - despite pre-booking - seemed they assumed us to be dishonest, never before been so insulted at a hotel reception!
Dirty rooms - dog hairs on carpet, dirty bathrooms & toilets - not resolved despite showing receptionist and requesting cleaning!! Rooms not equipped for number of occupants.

Beautiful lobby; high-ceiling rooms. Conveniently right at the train station but still walking distance from the Cite that's Carcassonne's primary tourist calling. Also right next to the beautiful canal du midi.

Good staff; good English

But...VERY low water pressure. I think I'll be home before the long, thin tub fills. And a looooong time to GET hot water.

NO AIR CONDITIONING, No mini bar.

Free internet for 12 hours with a squirrely login/logout process.

But close to supermarket where you can purchase drinks

Having spent 38 hours travelling via Air & Trains from New Zealand to reach our hotel. It looked very grandeur int he front entry / foyer area - unfortnately thats where the grandeur stopped. Dad and son rn hotel, reasonable reception on arrival, bt at French pace. It did have a pool which helped wash away travel weary woes and the 38 deg temps.. Rooms definitely are outdated and could do with updating. Couple quirky touches in the rooms , furniture styled from the 80's. the room was clean enough , no fans or Air cond. Breakfast if included is very good - plenty to chose from - probably one of the better on this tor through France. Would definitley rate this 2-3 star max.

this was once a beautifully grand hotel - the entrance hall is a great place to spend time in (in fact you might want to spend your free time there as our room was fairly small). It's a little tatty round the edges but that doesn't really matter as the original grandeur is lovely and still evident.
breakfast is way too expensive ..you can buy it for half the price at brasserie across the road. nice swimming pool in the basement - lovely for a quick dip after a hot day sightseeing.
there are not many staff around reception so you might be in for a long wait if others are checking in.
Metronome club round the corner, by edge of canal, is great for dinner and there;s free parking round the block,

Booked last minute on line, as needed to stay in Carcassonne to catch an unplanned early flight.
The Hotel is situated just a few minutes walk from the train station and walking distance to the centre of town. Young guy at reception was pleasant and helpful. That's the last positive note in this review..... The Hotel is rated as a four star, so that just shows how misleading the star rating system is. Yes it has a lift, swimming pool, 24 hour reception etc but it takes more than that to come up to four star ratings in my opinion. The unsupervised swimming pool for example is very French as it needs to close for two hours at lunchtime (it doesn't open until 9 am). The whole place is tired and shabby, the rooms very small, ill proportioned, cheap 1980's furniture that wasn't even good in the 1980's, smallest shower room possible with black mold on the shower door and some tiles, poor soundproofing etc. All this for 130€ (very strangely the hotel displays its' rates as 65€, then in smaller print mentions 'per person'). I would recommend avoiding this hotel at these rates. It would be more accurate and reasonable if it was rated two star and charged half the existing rates. I will not be returning, even if it did.

Room Tip: Don't choose any od them
