“Nice view but small rooms”
Reviewed 13 September 2011

Booked a medeival city view room for 3 nights. Location of the hotel was fantastic, right at the base of the old bridge and directly in front of the old city. We were disappointed with the room which was quite small and also smelled of cigarettes despite being a non smoking room. The city view could only be seen from the balcony but was amazing and we could just about fit 2 chairs onto the balcony to have a drink looking at the view. Very clean and friendly staff who spoke great English. Food good and view from the restaurant amazing but you need to book in advance. Overall a nice hotel and would recommend as long as you don't mind the small rooms.

Room Tip: Go for the medeival vity view!

We stayed for 4 nights in August 2011. Never having been to Carcassonne before, It looked a little difficult to drive to but I needn't have worried, the one way system is easier than it looks (but don't trust google maps!). Once there, the reception staff speak English and were very helpful - they didn't push their expensive parking lot, but told me where there was ample free parking only a hundred metres away.
The Panoramic room is well worth the small amount extra, the views are stunning. The room was very clean and in good order and the air-con actually worked.
We didn't try the internal restaurant or the outside terrace restaurant due to mixed reviews and the need to book, but they seemed popular enough. To be honest, there are plenty of places to eat either up the hill in La Cite or in the lower town.
Location couldn't have been better. Apart from the views which must be the best in town, the banks of the river offer excellent strolling/sitting opportunities. Its an easy walk up to La Cite and an even easier walk to the lower town (very good for breakfast in the main square, Place Carnot, and cheaper than the hotel).
Overall excellent and I'd have no hesitation in returning. Oh, and free Wi-Fi is available.

We stayed here from 6 to 10 July 2011. I booked single rooms, but on arrival we had been upgraded to double 'panoramic view' rooms. (Rooms 101 and 102 - overlooking the river with limited views of the cite).

Located midway between the station (on the edge of the new town) and the medieval cite - easy access to everything Carcassone has to offer.

Modern hotel doesn't look like much from the outside but is beautifully outfitted on the inside. Spacious room, clever arrangement of mirrors in bathroom creates illusion of even more space. In room facilties include fridge, balcony, satellite TV with CNN. No safe.

Buffet breakfast was mostly cold options - but with really good cereal/fruit etc.
Hotel has a pool - but it was not open when I tried to use it.

Pros: Really enjoyed the breakfast and the free in room wifi access. Views of the Pont Vieux from room balcony.

Cons: We had dinner at the hotel's Quai restaurant but food was mediocre and service was terrible.

HDTC is about as convenient as it gets in Carcassonne - just the other side of the old bridge that joins the road leading up to the old city. You have a great view of the castle from outside the hotel or from your front of hotel room if you think the extra cost is worth it. The walk to the centre of the old city is around 15 min and you do pass some nice bars on the way should you feel the need to take refreshment. The hotel rooms are small and clean and ours had a shower/bath with separate toilet. Reception area is pleasant and so are the staff. They have a big underground and secure car park where we stored our bicycles overnight. Excellent value for money particularly if you can find the swimming pool which has guests wandering around as if in maze trying to find it!

This hotel has a number of good points - good location (15 minutes walk to La Cité), great views and a good quality-price ratio.

The rooms and bathrooms are relatively spacious, everything was clean and the place is nicely decorated. We didn't use any of the facilities or eat there, though.

In all, it is a perfectly good hotel, it's just nothing special.

Reception was helpfull, rooms comfortable, restaurant food was good, i did have one evening meal in the hotel but after three courses i was full and there were still three to go. i would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting to visit the sights of the town and wish i could have spent more time therte

Perfect hotel to visit the medieval city of Carcassonne. Breathtaking views from the restaurant and some of the rooms (more expensive). Rooms are modern, comfortable and well-equipped. Breakfast was just normal but, with such scenery through the panoramic windows, it didn't matter much. Nice staff.
