“Hidden Gem in Carcassonne”
Reviewed 21 May 2013 via mobile

Came here expecting pedestrian Cantonese food. But unexpectedly delighted. Mainly Cantonese menu but some Szechuan and Malaysian dishes thrown in. Waitress speaks hood English.

Ginger beef could have had more veg mixed in but nicely balanced. Malaysian pork was a highlight, not too moist, and nicely suffused with fresh birds eye chilly. Reasonably priced at about €60 for 2 with wines and coffee.

“Excellent Food”
Reviewed 5 April 2013 via mobile

What a find in this lovely city. This is the second visit to this restaurant and it is one of the best Chinese restaurants we have had the pleasure to eat in. From the moment you walk into this cozy restaurant to the moment you leave, you feel right at home. The food is delicious and full of flavour served by a waitress full of knowledge about the vast menu. We will be back to this restaurant when we visit Carcassonne again.

“Welcomed Tasty Surprise”
Reviewed 20 April 2012

We ate in La Jonque tonight after searching for somewhere that offers more than duck and cassoulet!! What a find! We stumbled across this place by accident and how glad we are that we did. It is small and cosy but the food is excellent and the service very fast with English speaking staff and menu. The cost was very reasonable at under 30 euros for 2 of us. Also it's worth mentioning that they have the cleanest toilet complete with soap and hand towels which seems to be rare in Carcassonne! We'd definitely recommend eating here.

“Very good authentic Chinese food in downtown Carcassonne”
Reviewed 29 October 2011

We live in Carcassonne and eat out 3-4 times a month. La Jonque is one of our favorite restaurants (Restaurant Adelaide is also quite good) because the dining experience is consistently very good. It’s not a place you stumble across due to its location on a calm side street. Not much to look at from the street, inside it’s cozy, very clean and nicely furnished in traditional Chinese décor with mellow Asian music playing in the background. It’s relatively small inside, maybe 6 or seven tables but privacy is afforded by the dividers between the tables. The couple that owns and run La Jonque opened it 14 years ago but have experienced a decline in diners since 2008 when a multitude of all-you-can-eat Chinese buffets opened in Carcassonne. Because the French tend to eat traditional French food (and for good reason; French food is very good), they are content with only occasionally eating Chinese food and prefer the cheaper buffets over an authentic Chinese dining experience. La Jonque is more expensive than the buffets simply because authentic Chinese dishes rely heavily on vegetables and other fresh ingredients not always available locally.

The owners often travel Europe and venture into the Chinese neighborhoods to see what the locals eat. For that reason, the menu selection at La Jonque is outstanding; just about any Chinese dish you can imagine is available. They even have an English menu with slight changes in some dishes that the British tend to prefer. The service is always professional, friendly and discreet and more than once we’ve enjoyed lengthy conversations with the owners when the chef (the husband) comes out from the kitchen during dinner every night and personally asks each table is everything was to their liking.
Lunch menus are from €11 and a good dinner with a local wine, coffee and dessert will run about €60 for two people. A free digestif is served after dinner.

We really enjoy eating here and hope more people discover this hidden gem in downtown Carcassonne.
