We were in Carcassonne for a few days and saw the reviews of this restaurant on TA. We are fans sof the Alsace food and wines so decided to book and give it a try. It was the night of the England game and so we found ourselves to be only guests which was a shame but nonetheless we loved it. We had great salad starters very fresh and one Zander Fish and one Duck. Both were rated fantastic and I managed a dessert of creme brulee. We had half bottles of Pinot Blanc and Gewurtztraminer and they were really good. The owner was a delight to speak to and we had a wonderful evening. If you like Alsace food and sauerkraut and their wines this is a must do place. The Zander fish was rated by my other half as one of the best fish dishes ever. Thanks to the owners for a lovely but quiet night.

Like the other reviewers said this was open on a Sunday night when other places weren't. It was really busy and we ended up on a table outside, and even though we waited a little while for food we were never forgotten. The portions are pretty large but we still managed to eat three course set menus. The vegetarian menu was fine - the White Alsace pizzas were definitely different, and the apricot tarte was lish. Would recommend for value, service and the veggie food.

We loved our dinner here. It was a nice change of pace from all the wonderful French food we were enjoying. It has a more German flair and we enjoyed the schnitzel and sausage specialties. Nice owners and very characteristic Alsatian décor. I enjoyed the Charcoute with 5 meats. Price was right too. The restaurant is on the same street as the Celt, the Irish Pub in Carcassonne where we enjoyed the lively music they had that night.

Just like the previous reviewer we noticed that there is very little choice for eating out in Carcassone on a Sunday night. The exterior of this restaurant looked appealing enough and we were greeted with a friendly welcome.

It was quite encouraging to see the owner/waiter in casual clothes and looking human rather than presenting himself as some snobbish waiter who cannot get customers in and out fast enough. We were expecting some good reliable kitchen performance and were certainly not disappointed. Husband and myself both had Flammkuchen which arrived within reasonable time and tasted very good. Pity we could not fit desert in!

Interestingly enough we sat at the table next to one of the previous reviewers ('Vanninman'). So yes, indeed, expectations vary and if you would like waiters to race around you dressed in the latest fashion, then this is not the place to go. If you are looking for a small friendly place where you can have a casual dinner and which feels a bit like the village pub, give it a try.

We liked it enough last night that we tried to go there again tonight, rather than hiking up into the touristy old town and getting rushed through a 4-course meal in 60 minutes. Unfortunately the place was too busy and we could not get in. Next time we're in town, we will be there on the dot at 19:00 and look forward to another tasty meal.

Carcassonne town restaurants are 80% closed on Sunday nights. This one was open, so the reluctance in entering this somewhat scruffy small room was overcome by the lack of alternatives.

It was clear it was a '2 man band' as the other clients were generally staring at empty plates. The waiter/owner dressed casually for the beach in tee shirt, baggy shorts and sandles; not nice on a 60 year old. So, 10 minute wait for menus, 10 minute wait for ordering resulted in 25 minutes before a drink arrived. Our food was cooked in order and arrived 30 minutes later. Unlike everywhere else in Germany and the rest of the world, their Cordon Bleau was made of chicken breast, not pork. Not explained in the menu. The chips became potato wedges.

Having read the other reviews and seen their rating in the league table, this morning, I can't believe we were in the same place!
