“Modern Rooms, Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2012

This place really has three hotels, the Monmorency being one of them and sharing the same reception. The staff was wonderful. They found time to be friendly, the comfortable rooms were cleaned quickly and early and the breakfasts were very good and served well.
The location was much better than we expected. We had tried to stay inside the walls fo Carcassonne but none were available. I was so glad we did not stay there for the difficulty in getting in and out. This location is a short walk to Carcassonne La Cite.
Parking is available and convenient.

Room Tip: If visiting the Carcassonne to see La Cite, and you plan to visit locations outside of the walls, st...

We stayed for 4 days at this hotel, and found it comfortable, clean, and in an excellent location. Checked in to Le Montmorency at Hotel du Chateau across the road, staff were helpful, and room was perfect. Glad we asked for country room with terrace, as it was great to sit out after a day walking. Terraces are shady but welcome after days in hot sun. Towels and bedlinen changed every day, room was spotless.
Pool and jacuzzi in grounds of hotel across the road are heated, very clean, private and quiet, with plenty loungers, shower, toilet and changing facilities and intercom to order from bar. Never tried spa, expensive, and you could only use the facilities if you had booked a treatment.
Hotel is located right outside city walls, lovely to sit out at the hotel bar with the city walls lit up. Didn't have breakfast at hotel, took 2 minute walk into walled city for breakfast (around 6 euros). All restaurants in walled city have good range of menus, all have similar set menus, not many vegetarian choices. Found amazing little restaurant "Le Trivalou" on the way between the hotel and the Pont Vieux, small but with excellent food, worth a visit. Worth walking across Pont Vieux into the newer town, with river walk, canal (bikes to hire) and train station.
Great stay, would definitely return, and highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with terrace, they don't have the view of walls but it gives extra space. Balcon...

If visiting Carcassonne again we'd definitely stay here. Location outside main entrance to Cite is fantastic. Could have used facilities at sister hotel but didn't, nor did we sample breakfast there. Despite worrying reviews about tiny rooms, we were pleasantly surprised by a comfortable, chic (and pink), ground floor room with external patio/garden and furniture. Strange decor in entrance foyer. Parking at sister hotel secure and well-worth paying for.

The hotel has a great location.
But it has some real limitations.
The rooms of the Montmorency are cramped. it's not necessarily that they are small. For example, a deluxe double room has a double bed and a single bed crammed into the bit of space left after the double bed. So there is very little floor space. As we didn't need the single bed for sleeping and there was no other space to unpack our suitcases we made use of the bed for this purpose.
The bathrooms are fine. You get water all over the place when taking a shower, but that seems to be the design in many hotels, so that's not so big a deal.

What was really awful is that after the noon checkout, they have nowhere to store luggage. So if your departure from Carcassonne is after noon, you have to sit around watching your luggage or hope that no one wanders off with it while it's sitting in a very small lobby. That is a serious inconvenience. We had to change our 4:30 train to a morning train to avoid this.

It was a big disappointment and definitely not worth the price.

We have just spent a fantastic mini break in beautiful Carcassonne despite the misfortune of choosing this pathetic excuse for a boutique hotel. As previously stated it is just an annex across the road from the rather better looking Hotel de la Chateau. All the outside photos are taken of that giving a completely wrong impression of the Montmorency across the road. We paid 200 euro for 2 nights in a superior room. I can honestly say it was the smallest room we have ever stayed in. It was a bright garish red with a small window looking straight into someones house opposite. We managed to get the room changed for an exact copy on the ground floor that did at least have a small terrace. The general cleanliness left a lot to be desired and the promised toiletries were conspicuous by their absence. We even had to ring the reception for toilet rolls! The bathroom was miniscule with a shower that wouldn't even stay on the wall when in use. The receptionist had a real attitude and seemed to think that because we booked through an on line agency we got we deserved. Please do not fall into the same trap as us and avoid this hotel like the plague.

Hotel is actually spilt into 2 parts, with this part an annex with just guest rooms. The main hotel is over the road and contains the bar, dining room, terrace and pool. The positives were; great location right by the castle/chateaux grounds, nice outside bar area and grounds, really good pool area (which we managed to enjoy in October because it was sheltered), good clean rooms with good facilities. The downsides were; the cost of some of the extras, we stayed 3 nights and had to pay 30 euros for parking, 5 euros for a small beer, 12 euros for a small and average breakfast. One of the rooms (we stayed in two) was bright orange, small and noisy (however the initial, cheaper room, was much nicer. All in all, would I stay again, yes, I'd just ensure I confirmed the room beforehand and avoided the additional costs by buying everything elsewhere.

Really an annex of the Hotel de la Chateau, with which it shares a reception area, breakfast room, pool, and parking lot (10 euro per night). Well situated by the gates of the citadel. Rooms in a modern design, but with little storage space for baggage. The bathroom was a poseur's paradise. Adequate breakfast looking up to the walls of the citadel. Free wifi.
