“Marvelous!”
Reviewed 20 November 2012 for a stay in October 2012

What a super holiday! We were swept away by the beauty and the history of this wonderful location. The owners of the gites were able to tell us so much about the local area and advise us on what to see and do. The gites was really clean and comfortable with an amazing pool, and great value for money. We will definitely be going back and wouldn't hesitate to tell our friends.

“Rest and relax”
Reviewed 19 November 2012 for a stay in August 2012

We stayed at Le Moulin in August. The location is excellent, only 10 minutes drive to Carcasonne centre, and 4 minutes from a large supermarket selling everything. The village is peaceful and has a friendly hotel bar, a little supermarket (great croissants), a bakers and a butchers all a couple of minutes walk from the gite, giving plenty of choice for your whole stay.
The gite is very comfortable...the wet room shower was fantastic for cooling down in the very hot weather we had, the bed was super-comfortable, and there was a proper kitchen, not the tiny two plate cooker most small gites seem to come with. Helen and Mike have done a great conversion of the buildings, but even better is the pool and deck area which is fab. And the hosts, Helen and Mike, are great, friendly, helpful and accomodating.....thanks for the party guys!

“the best place we have ever stayed in France”

If you are a country loving family who enjoy friendly dogs (as a substitute for those you have to leave at home!) and yearn for a non-car dependent ambulatory rural French experience (possibly being Australian as we are and sick of driving) then this place is for you!
If you are also tired of the frustrating disappointments of having to tolerate pretentious narcissistic self-indulgent owners and much appreciate a genuinely friendly family host who respect your space and are there when you really need them (medical melt-down type things) then you are coming to the right place!
We relaxed in the cosy and well converted gite, explored (when we could) the very friendly local town and outrageously peaceful countryside, even travelled to Carcassonne by bus, just a 20-30min walk through the vineyards to Villemoosetoosoo to catch it. We contrasted all that rural peace with 13 nights of continuous episodes of "Spooks" on the DVD player!

Helen, Mick, Jack, Harry and the family pets are excellent hosts

We absolutely thoroughly recommend the place!

“Perfect holiday location”

My wife and I enjoyed our stay in Le Moulin immensely. It is superbly located, quiet and secluded in its own extensive grounds yet no more than two minutes walk from the village of Villegailhenc. Excellent local facilities include a supermarket, bakery, butcher, hotel with spendid restaurant and even a wine cooperative with some of the best value wines we have sampled in a long time. The accomodation itself had everything we needed and was extremely comfortable. The property has its own private swimming pool which is perfect for both experienced and novice swimmers alike, the only drawback being that it is not heated. Helen and Mick are the perfect hosts and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. (And thanks for the loan of the bikes, guys!) We had our own car with us and Le Moulin was the perfect base for exploring the local vineyeards and, indeed, the city of Carcassonne itself which is 10 minutes down the road. The airport is just as close if you choose to arrive that way. Meanwhile, the coast is no more than about a 45 minute drive. The Canal du Midi is less than 3km from le Moulin and this made for some idyllic cycling along its well maintained towpaths. All in all, a perfect holiday retreat and we would return in a heartbeat if the opportunity arose.

Management Response
18 Dec 2012
We have been thinking about how best to accommodate families and as a result are undertaking a major revamp of our gite during the winter 2012/13. Firstly we are adding a second bedroom, which will increase floorspace, storage space and double the number of bedspaces. Also, an extra French window will give additional natural light and ventilation. We are also redesigning the living area, installing new furniture, UK satellite TV and undertaking a complete redecoration. We think these changes, together with our much-praised pool area and two acres of grounds, will provide an ideal combination for families, and indeed, all our guests.

Le Moulin is a brilliant place to stay I highly recommend it. Good location, fabulous accomodation and brilliant hosts.

It's an easy walk to the boulangerie every morning for fresh croissants and the local shop is well stocked with delicious cheese and wine within stumbling distance!
Whilst I was there the weather was amazing, 30+ Celsius every day, and not a cloud in the sky, so we were definitely were glad of the pool! It was in a beautiful position, with some shade from trees but plenty of sun loungers, very clean too

We had a trip to Carcassone's La Citéonly a short drive from the Gite, well worth visiting.
We also went to the mediterranean coast for a day at the seaside which was less than an hour's drive away and AMAZING.
Just a 10minute walk from the Gite we had a lovely walk through the vinyards with spectacular views of the Black Mountains and the Pyrennees. Marvellous.

I had a brilliant holiday here :)

“Peaceful”

This gite is quite lovely. Roomy apartment with a sofa, kitchen facilities, patio doors out on to the garden and a piano (if you can play of course). A spacious wet room with a good shower and a double bedroom. Helen and her family make you most welcome. The grounds are really beautiful with an area for you to cook a bbq if you wish, chairs to sit out on. There is a swimming pool too. The birds are lovely to listen to in the garden. The village has everything you need for supplies. Very near to Carcassone and the airport.

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday in this region we can recommend this gite. We actually did not hire a car, but had booked three wine tours which were organised with a pick up and drop off at the gite. The other days we walked to the next villages etc. If you have a car obviously you could get about even more than we did.

We did not have particularly good weather the first few days which meant we could not appreciate the area and the grounds as much as we did as soon as the weather improved.
