With many food choices inside the walls, a good simple late lunch was the goal. After many trips to France, the Croc Monsieur is the best I've EVER eaten. Melted fresh deep cheese to perfection. Served with a fresh butter lettuce salad topped with veggies and an oil/vinegar/herb dressing, perfect! The service and friendliness are superb. I'd go back in a heart beat. Will crave this lunch and location long after I return home. Great folks and food!

Tucked away in the Rue du Plô, next to the excellent Bar des Vins is this little café. They do delicious Paninis and Baguette sandwiches ( 4€ and 3.50€ respectively ) as well as crêpes. Generous glasses of chilled wine are 2€ which is the best value in the Cité !! ).
The café is run by a young couple who are very welcoming and enthusiastic. There is a large-screen telly indoors but i always took my snacks out into the shaded courtyard.
Families with children are welcome.

Soup was really good, sandwich rather fine, great value for money. We were delighted to find a warm and dry spot on a very wet day.

I visited Carcassonne on a bright day in late April - but with a cold wind. I had a delicious light lunch in the peaceful pretty little garden courtyard sun trap of this small self service cafe. For about 7 euros I had a salad with quiche and a glass of chilled rose. It was so relaxing I'm afraid I then partook of two further glasses at a mere 2 euros each! They also do crepes and a great range of huge tasty baguettes - all at great prices. If you want a full on meal then you'll have plenty of choice here in the old city, however, if all you need is a tasty substantial snack to keep you going at a good price in a lovely setting, you'll be well advised to take the trouble to seek out this little place run by an enthusiastic friendly young couple. Enjoy.

I eat at Le Chaudron Cathare regularly as I'm a Brit who now lives in the Carcassonne area and whenever I visit La Cite on business, I eat at this cafe.

Try sitting in the garden at the back on a sunny day with one of their sandwiches followed by crepes .... yummy and extremely good value for money.

You could easily walk past but don't do that - go inside and relax in the shade of the La Cite walls.
