Let's face it Carcassonne is a tourist destination, and, there's a squillion eateries around town before you even get to the "ho hum" offerings in "La Cite" .....we've been to a lot in the main town over the past couple of years on and off and while Le Cathare may not be haute cuisine it has a hell of a lot going for it..... the menu has plenty of choice and unless you're really picky something for most tastes, good dessert menu too so save room... the wine list is un pretentious and pretty good value best of all the beef is excellent quality, as large as you want it and cooked on the open fire grill...to my mind the best way to cook meat or fish. Warmer months dining is outside unless it's looking like rain then it's indoors with a very rustic and cosy ambience, perhaps a tad warm given the open fire but then the alternative is getting soaked outside...you can't control the weather ...right? Patrick the owner / chef is welcoming, helpful and charming...so if you want a good night out, modestly & fairly priced with good food and little pretention it would be hard to go past Le Cathare. We've been around 5 times so far and will return...... we love it!
