“Okay hotel but needs air con”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2010

passed through Carcassone for 1 night and needed somewhere to stay and this was the cheapest we found on the day. Beautiful town and the location of the hotel was very good for us being near the station.
The hotel was slightly dated but our room was spacious and clean. The only problem was the heat, im normally fine but had to sleep with a wet towel covering my entire body as it was so hot and there isn't air con.
In conclusion i wouldn't stay here again unless it was the cheapest i could find, not great value considering there's no air con however any time but summer it would be fine.

Our room was the most awful room, had booked double room and was given long, dull room with 3 beds,a cupboard door was hanging off the hinge, the hairdryer was in dangerous condition. Was charged 90 euros but after complaint next morning agreed to lower to 80 - big deal! Was told we had been given wrong room which didn't help matters. TIP - don't stay there and always complain immediately when something not right as you may also be given the wrong room!

Staff were ok. the decor dreadful as was the bedroom. The bathroom was smelly and the toilet small and cramped. The evening meal was mediocre(if we had not been on a guided tour and prepaid we would have eaten out)Carcassone was great so was the surrounding country side.

This was a last minute break and if given more time we would have picked a different hotel. Located close to the Gare and the main road next to the Canal du Midi, the road noise on the front of the the building was constant and the bar next door to the hotel boomed music till 2am whilst we were there and with lack of sleep because of this asked to change rooms to the rear of the building. The staff were friendly and helpful but we felt that the breakfast was overpriced at 9.50 Euros each per day, the rooms were basic and needed refreshing and upgrading. Carcassonne apart from the Cite was just an ordinary place.

The only complaint from our point of view is the decor, its very dated and could do with being modernized. Other than this, we can't fault the hotel. The staff were brilliant, the hotel was clean and comfortable, the room was large, the location was perfect, close to the train station, the canal (with boat trips), and the centre with so many cafe's and restaurants. Even the price wasn't over the top.
We'd definitely go back.

Overall I'd rate it 5/5

Best - Location
Worst - Outdated decor

No major problems with this hotel. The decor is faded - but that was so in all other similar priced hotels. The room was hot with no air conditioning and the bathroom was tiny. But otherwise it was clean and comfortable and staff were helpful.
Don't bother with the parking, it's tiny and it was full so I didn't even have the choice, though I'd selected this hotel for its parking. There a public underground car park just 100 metres or so away which is easier and cheaper.
It's a good walk from the citadel - about 10 minutes to see it and another 10 to reach it, but the walk through the lower town is quite pleasant and there are many shops & other facilites near the hotel - including the post office. The railway station is very close too.
Didn't try the hotel food as the main square in the citadel has it all, atmosphere, good prices and good choice.

What a huge disapointment to find what a dump Carcassonne is. I have been to various destination in France and love the Country deeply. Cacassonne has so much to offer, underneath the dirt and the grime. Le Cite is such a spectacular and magical place to visit but all we could see was the total unkept condition of the whole place. We stayed at the Bristol 3* ! No better than a cheap seaside B&B in the late 60's, a tired (not dirty) poor quality establishment, the staff were lovely though.
Back to Carcassone, the canal side was tatty and realy unkept, the grass ( or the meadow ) at the side of the canal, had just been mown, or the crop that was previously there, had just been harvested. Stalkes of the crop were left strewn across the area, this was the same at the casle and along the river aud. The pavements an roads are just a crumbling mess, EVERY WHERE ! The main avenue , or walkway from the hotel tothemain square was the exception, it was paved in buitifull stone, yes you've guessed it, It was filthy dirty and I cannot see that it had been cleaned EVER. The buildings were of great quality and lovely archtecture, but unkept, unpainted uncared for
unloved and the old bridge what a mess they have made of it ! Do not cross this bridge of a night, very strange shadowy figures lurk there. Food ? poor and very expensive along with the drinks £3-50 fo a 25cl orangina anywhere or any soft drink. £12 for pizza that looked like a 12 yo 1st attempt at makeing one.
Shame on the town officials for not looking after your town and your tressures, and shame on the residents for not haveing any pride in your town.
