We flew to Carcassonne and then took a taxi to the hotel (10 - 15 mins) . We spent two nights here and found it to be everything we wanted. The location is fantastic, a very short walk to the main entrance gate to the old city. The impressive walls of the city providing a spectacular backdrop to the view from the breakfast room/bar/patio of the hotel. Hotel du Chateau is a tranquil haven from the hustle and bustle of the city. The staff are helpful and friendly. The decor is modern and tasteful. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and high quality of finish to our room. The tiling and soft furnishings were done to a high standard. I only have one tiny complaint about the small pillows...some were very hard and others soft and lumpy!! The bathroom had a shower, smallish bath and a double sink and plenty of soft white fluffy towels. The breakfast was great, fresh fruit, pastries, cheese, ham, yogurt, boiled egg and locally produced juice.
We also used the heated pool and jacuzzi and although the weather was a bit chilly I can imagine these features would be very welcome in the summer. I didn't use the spa so unable to comment on that.
Mention must be made of the two adorable, well behaved dogs and also of the resident cat, all the pets friendly and while we were there the dogs went to the grooming parlour! Don't be put off by the animals they help make this hotel the gem that it is.
The hotel is small and this adds to its charm, creating a personal feel.
We would certainly revisit and also recommend it to anyone visiting Carcassonne.

Just outside the walls of Carcassonne and conveniently placed near the main entrance to the walled city this is a perfect hotel for a one or two night stop particularly if you have a car.
The rooms are equipped to a high standard and parking is secure within a security gated area. The hotel also has a swimming pool and plenty of secluded garden areas to relax.
It only offers bed and breakfast (breakfast is good!) and bar snacks but their are plenty of places to eat either within the walled fortress or the newer town which is also within walking distance. At night the views of the medieval city are fantastic and you can relax in the bar or on the veranda taking in the view and enjoying a night cap or coffees.
Staff are friendly and helpful and the pet dogs equally entertaining.
A great place to stay for a couple of nights

Room Tip: request to stay in the main building.

What a wonderful night's stay in Carcassonne. Gorgeous hotel. Great service, friendly staff. And a wonderful spa. Right in the shadow of the walls of the Cite. Manages to combine a boutique hotel style, with a truly warm welcome.

Would recommend this hotel with no hesitation. It's absolutely not the cheapest hotel in the area, but our stay was worth every penny. The rooms are incredibly wll-appointed, with no expense spared. The shower was incredible, and the bed possibly the most comfortable I have ever slept in! We were very well looked after and it made our visit to Carcassonne very special.

The resident dogs really added to the charm for us. They are very much part of the family, and added to the warmth of the place.

Perfect location, good facilities and great breakfast. Dont be put off by the many pets that roam around the hotel. The room we had looked great but was a bit impractical and tight for 3 people, it all looked recently decorated however it was a bit of a mis-matched blend of modern and olde worlde. Overall its locaton right out the front of the walled town sells it..

The hotel is perfectly located near an entrance to the old city, and the hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful. Only problem was that we were in room 4, which is so warm that we had to either leave the window open or run the air conditioner all night. Otherwise, the room was beautiful.

Room Tip: Don't take room 4.
