We flew into Toulouse and caught a train to Carcasonne - all remarkably simple and smooth. The hotel itself is fantastic. The location is just outside the Cite walls so benefits from the lovely nightly view of the walls all lit up, and is a short walk to the main entrance to the medieval cite.
The staff we lovely and always had a smile and were incredibly helpful - nothing was too much trouble - even down to finding out train times for our return trip as we found we were in the middle of a bank holiday - and not a clue!
had a a fab 3 nights - and we were really reluctant to leave.
Breakfast was also really nice - we also found a the Brassarie Le Donjon - in the walls - which was a fab place for a meal.

A great location matched by the excellent staff who appeared to be very multi talented, on reception, then in the bar and serving at breakfast! the access to the medieval city is by far the best, we thought better than being inside the walls as we benefitted from the lighting of the battlements each night. Rooms were very individual and clean although we had to close the wooden shutters to keep out the daylight in the early morning. Better directions to find it when driving would be helpful.

Location is impecable, just a few steps ( and I mean steps)away from the great wall of Carcassonne. It has its own private parking ( at an extra cost as in all France) which makes it very comfortable because you don´t have to park away at the public parking sites (which means you avoid an uncomfortable long walk with all your luggage to your hotel). It´s a real updated french chateau transformed into a petit hotel with only 16 rooms, all different and all having something extra to offer: either an extra spacious room or an average size one with a lounge terrace. You won´t be bothered by noise as the town itself is quiet and noisy gathering happens at the main square inside the wall. It has an open bar within the garden which faces the great wall of Carcassonne, so, relaxation is the name for this place. It also has a spa but we didn´t use it cause we had a short time to visit Carcassonne. In the summer you can use the swimming pool which I guess is the best reward after a hot day and long walks. It´s a curious owned place as the same girl is the bartender as well as the recepcionist! ( you can then imagine the size of the place). Inside the wall there is a very fancy/expensive hotel with excellent views of the towers as its terrace is part of the site but I would rather save money on the room price and stay at The Chateau and maybe use the "savings" to have dinner at the very good and famous restaurant at the in-wall hotel. Nevertheless there are plenty of excellent petit french restaurants inside the fortress so don´t make the mistake of having lunch or dinner at the main square in Carcassonne where restaurants are really the typical tourist ones and look for these to get the real flavor.

Room Tip: Notice there is no elevator so think of having a room at the main floorif you are carrying heavy luggage. Don´t worry about the noise cause it´s a quiet place.

We flew to Carcassonne and then took a taxi to the hotel (10 - 15 mins) . We spent two nights here and found it to be everything we wanted. The location is fantastic, a very short walk to the main entrance gate to the old city. The impressive walls of the city providing a spectacular backdrop to the view from the breakfast room/bar/patio of the hotel. Hotel du Chateau is a tranquil haven from the hustle and bustle of the city. The staff are helpful and friendly. The decor is modern and tasteful. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and high quality of finish to our room. The tiling and soft furnishings were done to a high standard. I only have one tiny complaint about the small pillows...some were very hard and others soft and lumpy!! The bathroom had a shower, smallish bath and a double sink and plenty of soft white fluffy towels. The breakfast was great, fresh fruit, pastries, cheese, ham, yogurt, boiled egg and locally produced juice.
We also used the heated pool and jacuzzi and although the weather was a bit chilly I can imagine these features would be very welcome in the summer. I didn't use the spa so unable to comment on that.
Mention must be made of the two adorable, well behaved dogs and also of the resident cat, all the pets friendly and while we were there the dogs went to the grooming parlour! Don't be put off by the animals they help make this hotel the gem that it is.
The hotel is small and this adds to its charm, creating a personal feel.
We would certainly revisit and also recommend it to anyone visiting Carcassonne.

Just outside the walls of Carcassonne and conveniently placed near the main entrance to the walled city this is a perfect hotel for a one or two night stop particularly if you have a car.
The rooms are equipped to a high standard and parking is secure within a security gated area. The hotel also has a swimming pool and plenty of secluded garden areas to relax.
It only offers bed and breakfast (breakfast is good!) and bar snacks but their are plenty of places to eat either within the walled fortress or the newer town which is also within walking distance. At night the views of the medieval city are fantastic and you can relax in the bar or on the veranda taking in the view and enjoying a night cap or coffees.
Staff are friendly and helpful and the pet dogs equally entertaining.
A great place to stay for a couple of nights

Room Tip: request to stay in the main building.
