“Lovely, cozy, extremely nice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2010

Having stayed at 5 star hotels like the Marriott, I would say this hotel is more than underrated. You could for sure add one or two more stars. The rooms were lovely, everything was nice and clean, the staff was very helpful and the view was perfect. It really doesn't get better. Why live downtown (in the old city) where masses of tourists are, when you can literally live right next door without the tourists and an awesome view. Breakfast in the morning outside was very nice. The only disadvantage this hotel has, in my opinion, is the fact that they only have continental breakfast, but no buffet.

And you should not forget the two (calmest, never barked, ever) cute "hotel dogs", who gave the hotel a real family feeling to it. In short: Forget about the rest... STAY HERE.

I stayed here for 2 nights with my boyfriend in July, we paid approx 150 pounds per night so this place isn't cheap but that's France for you...The hotel itself is very pretty and in a great location seconds away from the walled city. There is a very small pool area and a small garden here so for long stays it might seem a bit claustrophic as the ouside space is very limited. The rooms are very clean and not bad in terms of space although the shower cubicle in the bathroom is comically small. We had a room next to a road so it was a bit noisy at night. The breakfast is ok but for the price I expect more than a few rolls and jam and a bit of ham and cheese, the service was quite bad too. The place was hardly overrun but when trying to order some drinks it seemed to take forever to be served. I would recommend this hotel but it is a bit overpriced for what you get. I have not stayed in the hotel De La Cite but it may be worth paying a bit more to stay there. I did love Elliott the hotel's resident dog though! :-) Tip for local restaurants: Comte Roger is excellent.

This is a modern hotel located right outside the city gates. We recently stayed in a suite. The suites are beautiful and spacious, with private lounge area outside. Bathrooms are huge. The private parking lot is gated and free. Free Wi-Fi.

We loved our stay here and felt that it was the best value for money in our entire trip through southern france. We only stayed one night in Carcassonne, but having such a nice room was very relaxing.

I am on a trip with my family (parents and teenage brother) and two family friends. We were not expecting much when we arrived, but were all surprised as soon as we drove up to the hotel.

The hotel is situated right outside the castle walls, with an amazing view! The hotel is newly renovated, therefore clean, chic and definitely feels like a 4 start hotel more than a 3 star. Once you step into the reception, you are greeted by 2 very cute dogs. The hotel is family owned and it feels like one too, therefore making it feel more homey and welcoming. The rooms are very well equipped (flat screen, state of the art air conditioner, radio, etc). Everything is clean, chic and just makes you feel at home.

The hotel is right outside the castle gates, therefore the location is perfect. They have a pool, jaccuzzi and an amazing outside lounging place.

Definitely recommend this hotel. For those looking at hotels inside the walled city (castle), beware that you cannot drive into the town, therefore those with a lot of bags be warned!

This hotel is in a lovely location right on the walls of the cite/old town of carcassonne. The views from the terrace/bar are spectacular. The hotel looks lovely and is beautifully designed, lovely sofas, lighting bathrooms etc. It obviously takes a pride in this and seems like a showpiece as it is not all that functional - steps where slopes could be etc. The staff are reticent to help - but OK when asked - except for in the bar when one eve we waited half an hour and only saw one other guest get served before we gave up and the next day we bouught 2 ordinary bottles of beer for 6 euros each. We waited 25 minutes before anyone even bought coffee at breakfast time when they were frustratingly disorganised. We had room 15 - which is a shack behind a fence at the side of the car park - it too was beautifully decorated with circular bath and wet room - but smelt damp at all times possibly because it was built into the hillside and only had windows at the front. It was 270 Euros a night. Overall a really disappointing stay in what is a perfect location.

We stayed in the Red Room - gorgeous. Really comfortable and amazing for the price of the room. The terrace is a delight and we enjoyed pre dinner drinks, late night drinks and breakfast there - we did move back to our room too! The view is lovely and its quieter and much cheaper than the hotels within the city walls. Very touristy inside the city.
Pool was ok. The dogs were a delight too.
Great value for the setting and the quality of our room.

I realise this review is overdue, but I must admit that our stay last year in the Hotel du Chateau was ideal.
We stayed in one of the rooms by the pool, the quality and cleanliness of the room was just fine. The pool was a mere step away & it was really nice to have a private terrace in front of the room.
The staff were very friendly & indulged our attempts to speak pretty bad French at them.
We primarily booked the hotel as we were going to a concert, however If we had need to visit Carcassonne in the future we would book this hotel like a shot.
