Good views of La Cite and an interesting place to walk around. Contrary to an earlier review - we found the French most welcoming and helpful! I walked into a bank to get some cash. Turned out to be an admin only building (no money there!) but a member of staff accompanied me outside and gave me accurate directions to a square with a 'hole in the wall'.

I liked the way La Bastide was laid out ensuring that it was easy to find your way. Again plenty on offer by way of shops, restaurants, churches and museums.

The town is great with lots of interesting streets and a lovely walk around the outskirts. What I observed was the studied indifference of the French people who just ignored you as you are obviously a tourist.
Come to Yorkshire you'll get a much better welcome

The important fortifications in Carcassonne, found on the outskirts of the Ville Basse, worth a stop to look as you go towards the Old Bridge towards the medieval city.

Narrow streets full of shops auberge's and resturants. Typical bastide town. Lovely parks and fountains at each end of the main shopping street. The canal du midi is close to the town with its locks and boat trips.
