A familiar collection of local and non local painters is in one room downstairs plus a large and more interesting collection upstairs.A new exhibition every few weeks in main ground floor room. Usually very good. Has outdoor shows in courtyard in summer/festival time/

“Lovely building, some good exhibits”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

Good place to spend an hour or so, and it's free. Check the opening times first on their website.
Bags needed to be handed in at the front desk.
It has a permanent collection on the first floor (portraits, still-life, etc.) and had 2 other temporary exhibitions while we were in Carcassonne: a collection on the theme of Don Quixote, and the other on the works of Olivier Debre.
Photos appeared to be permitted, as I was given the "OK" by a member of staff.
The building itself is attractive, too.

“Not a bad collection”
Reviewed 21 June 2013

Popped in on the way back to the station, Beverley stayed outside as she did not want to leave her bag at the desk as she had the passports. So I had a quick whistle stop tour.

Reminded me a bit of the Dulwich Picture Gallery with some similar styles of paintings.

Some very interesting pieces, if you like art you will like this little gallery.

Free to get in.

“Good museum worth a visit”
Reviewed 15 June 2013

The museum is rather a long trek down from the fortress but definitely worth a visit. Packed with an interesting collection of art. We visited by chance having exhausted what we wanted to see on the fortress but I would recommend planning a visit. Worth a visit and there was no charge to visit when we visited which was a bonus. I do not know whether there is ordinarily a charge or not.
