I stayed here as a group for 3 days. Both Neil and Vickie were so accommodating and hospitable. The site is elevated and has stunning views of the surrounding countryside with the Pyrenees Mountains forming a stunning backdrop. The accommodation is clean and modern and there are ample amenities on site-especially the pool. Would highly recommend. Thanks again!!
A group of us stayed here for a couple of nights. Neil is a great host, super accommodation and very close to Carcassone and the surrounding area
There are not enough superlatives to describe Les Cypres and Domaine Saladry. It is utterly perfect for a family holiday in the south of France!
We arrived late on Saturday evening after a long journey and Neil and Vickie took time to welcome us and make sure that we settled in well, even leaving the pool open late so our children could have a swim and unwind! We couldn’t believe how lovely the gite was. Everything was impeccably clean and really stylish, whilst also being practical and comfortable. The key things for a break away from home with small children! All of the bedrooms were gorgeous. I’d have been happy to sleep in any of them! Later in our break we discovered that the magic shutters kept everything dark and cool even on the hottest days so good sleep was had by all ... perfect!
The pool was wonderful. Again scrupulously clean and with wonderful views over to the Pyrenees in the distance. Having a loo, fridge and pool house with shady tables was so helpful as it let the children have a bit of quiet time in the shade during the hottest days without feeling like they were missing out on the fun. The house’s position meant there was often a cooling breeze which was also very welcome.
More broadly we also loved the games hangar, especially giant Jenga, table football and table tennis, plus comfy space to sit and enjoy the views with new friends. There were so many ‘hidden’ spaces to sit and relax in the grounds. We loved the little lavender garden with a sunny bench surrounded by fig trees. The smell, and views, were amazing! ‘Help yourself to figs’ said Neil and Vickie on our first day. My daughter took this as a personal challenge and ate ten on a single day!
The gites are in a great location for days out if you want to ... local towns with vibrant markets, beaches or hikes to stunning Cathar castles. We did a mixture of days on which we didn’t leave the domaine (glorious!) and days on which we got out and about (also fab!) ... a perfect time was had by all.
We have been on a number of similar holidays in France, staying in gites with a shared pool. This was by far the nicest and the only one to which we would return. It’s not easy to create a home that’s stylish and practical in this way, especially if it also caters for families with small children. Everything had been thought of. We had the basics we needed, the touch of luxury we wanted. I can’t speak highly enough of it.
If you’re considering booking, do!
This is a very special place, everything is special - it starts with the surroundings, the site on a low ridge so that you have a 360degree view, & the extensive gardens & mature trees, & the unusually large swimming pool. The pool was spotless with plenty of loungers for three gites, and a shaded table with a fridge for a beer or two, & loos & changing place. The children loved the shady games barn & the swings.
The gites are large, beautifully furnished & embellished with all sorts of wonderful French ephemera. Each bedroom has a fan, there are top quality cotton sheets & towels, hair dryers - & although their web site lists the provisions for families with young children (travel costs, high chair, potty etc et ) the needs of adults are attended to as well.
There were nine of us aged from 8 months to 72 years, and & rented two gites, Les Pins & Les Acacias, but for our last two nights we were all in Les Acacias, & there was plenty of room.
The children loved the canoes and pedaloes at a lake a few minutes away, the adults liked access and to the canal du midi. However, it was hard to tear ourselves away from the gites.
The atmosphere is relaxed and beautiful & Vickie & Neil seemed to enjoy taking care of everything. We even had Neil collecting several of the party from Toulouse airport. It was also easy to rent a car from nearby Carcassonne airport.
We are already plotting how to return.
Beautifully restored house on large rural property with a large pool.
Large open downstairs space plus mater bedroom with ensuite. Upstairs is a large double room and smaller room with 2 single beds and shared bathroom. Although the weather was hot, the house was cool if kept locked up during the day. Kitchen is fully equipped but only a few condiments on offer. You need to bring all foodstuffs with you. Nice to have a refreshing pool after a day of touring.
Would definitely return
We had a very nice stay in Les Cypres, Domaine Saladry. The gite is spacious and clean and you have everything you need. The property is big and offers a lot of possibilities. A nice area for the children to play, a big and very clean swimming pool, beautiful views and scenery. There are bikes you can hire for very pleasant tours along the Canal du Midi and there are nice places to visit around. The owners Vickie and Neil are very nice and do everything they can to make your stay unforgettable.
We definitely recommend a stay at Domaine Saladry. Don't hesitate!
This was an amazing holiday because the location was perfect, the gite was immaculate with everything you would need to make your holiday enjoyable. It had the most fantastic grounds with one of the best kept pools i have ever been in. What made this holiday extra special was the wonderful care and consideration we got from the hosts Vickie and Neil, they went the extra mile to ensure that we enjoyed our holiday. They couldn't have been more helpful, from waiting up until 2am to greet us on our arrival to entertaining us in their gite. They were absolutely incredible.
