“Very pretty hotel with nice gardens and pool”
Reviewed 20 August 2013

we had a lovely 4 nights at this hotel, which certainly has the best possible position, being within walking distance of the town, harbour, beach, and chateau, yet has an aura of calm as soon as you enter it.

The hotel is an old house, and reflects this in the styles of furnishings and rooms. The room we were given was on the second floor, up two spiral staircases, and had strange beams across it. It also smelt of smoke. Apparently, although a non smoking hotel, some people still had smoked in the room, which wasn't the fault of the management. However the two nice ladies on reception found us another room on the ground floor in the annexe. This room, no, 17 was well equipped, but rather small and squashed for us. However it was right by the garden, and pool, which was lovely and a great advantage. If we went back we would ask for room 16, next door, or a room above with a balcony. 16 was bigger and brighter. Our room was very clean, but oddly there was no plug in the basin, which was quite modern. We asked about this, and were told somewhat offhandedly by the assistant manager that this was how it was, and nothing could be done. The towels were a bit small and sometimes had holes in.
We didn't have the breakfasts as they were so expensive, but they looked nice. There is no food served there at lunch or dinner time, - a shame really.
The receptionists and young men working there were all helpful and friendly.
The pool area was charming, the pool was not cold, although not very hot, but refreshing and nice. Big towels were provided for swimming, and put out twice a day on the sunbeds.
We liked the hotel generally and would go there again if we went back to Collioure, which we hope to do one day.
Finding the hotel and parking: firstly, the hotel is hard to find. Our satnav took us very near, but we kept missing the road to the hotel, because it isn't really a road, just a tiny very narrow cul de sac. We went up and round the roundabout at the top 3 or 4 times before we found where to go. There is a mainish street, with a square on one side and on the other side there are cafes and shops. Between these cafes and shops are two hotels in these tiny cul de sacs, and La Casa Pairal is one of them. You can drive down to unload, and then reverse out. Their car park is just up the road, outside a smaller hotel owned by the same company. There is a secure gate there through to the swimming pool area of La Casa, so actually very close if you need to fetch something from the car etc.
Collioure itself is utterly delightful, - we never moved the car in our time there, just wandering around the tiny streets, climbing up to see the views, going round the Chateau, drinking, eating........ Highly recommended as a place to visit, and La Casa is probably the best hotel overall there.

Casa Pairal is a charming hotel in the heart of Collioure. It is not beach front, but is only a short walk to the beach. It is centrally located, is in the middle of everything, and is only a ten minute walk (downhill) from the train station. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The hotel has a wonderful, peaceful and restful courtyard that includes a small pool. A continental breakfast is included which has something for everyone. The hotel is highly recommended by Rick Steves and If we ever return to Collioure, we would stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Request room facing the courtyard.

The beautiful gem of a town boasts many hotels, but this one is like staying at your rich aunt's rambling house! I understand that all these rooms are varied in size and amenities are not always uniform, but we have been happy staying twice now in a cool, air conditioned room overlooking the quiet, and astoundingly beautiful inner courtyard. Our room was small but clean and had fridge and safe combined, an unusual but useful feature. The room has furniture in keeping with the age and type of house, which makes it homely and gives the feeling of opulence. The staff are always pleasant and helpful and are happy to provide anything you need.
The pool is just off the courtyard and has sunny and shady spots to sit or lie in. Towels are provide and collected either from poolside or the room. The cleaning service is excellent, with good quality products replenished daily in the reasonably sized bathroom. You are more than welcome to sit/read/eat/drink in the courtyard at any time of day, where it is quiet and tranquil listening to the fountain, forgetting the busy, bustling town just outside. Breakfast is served in a lovely dining room but is pricey when there are so many restaurants providing similar breakfasts just outside the hotel, but not with the same ambience, of course.
Its close proximity to the railway station, the beach, the town, the local beauty spots, the shops and supermarket make it ideal for a holiday, but as soon as you enter the hotel you feel that you have entered a world of serenity and calm! A lovely place to be!

Reading other reviews, I see that we might got lucky with the room (can't remember the number though...second floor with a view of the gardens...) that seems to be fairly big compared what others had. Also very clean and decorated with antiques that gave it lots of charm. The bathroom was huge and even though it seemed renovated in the '90s it was still clean and functional. The location is awesome but than again, if your room faces the street, you might not get the same 'Silence' experience as we did as Collioure gets jam-packed with tourists during summertime and yes, there is a local market going on once a week right in front of the hotel. The breakfast was very good but a bit expensive and the only thing that went wrong for us was the A/C that didn't do well enough in the heat wave we were in at the end of July. We highly recommend this place even more if you're able to get there little bit off-season to avoid the big crowd.

Room Tip: Second floor facing the garden was god for us.

Our time was much too short in this beautiful sea-side village with lovely hotel at its heart, just steps away from the sights. We awoke early one morning and watched the sunrise as we walked along the shore - gorgeous! There is much to see in the area. We have already decided we must return and make this a week-long destination at least.

The good things about this hotel are its location, parking, staff and swimming pool. We are terrible gigglers and it's a "Relais du Silence" which was hard on us. People at the pool were intimidatingly quiet but at least stayed out of the water so we could swim (silently). We thought the "silence" aspect was hilarious otherwise as we stayed in a super noisy room (#5 - avoid it at all costs if you do stay there). Our room was directly over a circus the first night and, when that left, it was over a weekly market where a non-silenced man was loudly hacking chickens with a cleaver at 5:00 a.m. We had one barely accessible outlet in our room so if you have things you need to charge you can't do it in that room. To be fair they offered to do it in the office and we did but that was a bit of a nuisance and carried the risk of forgetting things. The walls of our room had peeling paint and water stains and it was very cramped considering the price. The bathroom was fine and the a/c good enough. Overall though it was so shabby and the total lack of outlets made it a pain and we wouldn't stay again. We didn't do breakfast there as it was expensive and you can literally walk out the door and in about 1/2 a block get a good breakfast for about a third of the price. We loved the town so don't let this review keep you from going there - just find a better hotel that's been updated since the 20th century.

Room Tip: Do not accept room #5!

Spent a week here. Our room was shabby and in dire need of a makeover. The ensuite bathroom was dated and basic. The air-conditioning unit dripped water all week and we gave up asking for it to be fixed. None of the English channels on the tv worked. However, the bed was very comfortable and the shower was very efficient with ample hot water and fresh towels and bed linen every day. Our room was very over-looked by another room nearby and as there wasn't a net curtain or blind we were forced to close the heavy curtains for privacy. My parents' room on the ground floor was small but stylish with a modern bathroom. We thought the staff were all very pleasant and friendly. The swimming pool area was great for relaxing and we enjoyed swimming every day. The location is ideal, secluded yet central. The car park was a bonus. Breakfast is not cheap but we thought it was excellent.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies and garden view
